college admissions

I worked in a college for 10 years. I know how disappointing it is for students not to get into the college of their choice and have to go elsewhere. The Admisssions Director of this college told me that if these same students apply to transfer, they have a better than average chance of getting in for the next semester or year. First time admissions for many students are overlapping. That is to say, these students apply to many colleges and are accepted. Sometimes, they find that their college of choice is not a good fit and transfer to another college. Therefore, leaving a vacancy. To those students in this situation, keep up your grades and, if you want to try again to enter your college of choice, try transferring. Good luck!

While some schools are relatively ‘transfer friendly’, many, particularly selective colleges, are not and have transfer rates which are significantly lower than for fr admissions. And for these schools, it is extremely difficult to transfer to them after only a year of college because when transfer applications are due, the student will have only finished one sem/qt of college, and they will be mainly assessed on HS gpa and test scores.
