I know that Berkeley was courting kids with Juvenile record. As part of the outreach and diversity. The word on the street is that it is easier to get into Berkeley with the record than without it “interesting story and life experience”.
Sorry for the late reply - we decided to try UC Blue Ash. Thank you again for your post! We have some family in the area he can stay with and that provides the bridge to UC . We will pay them something, but nowhere near what room and board would cost at UC or UT. Things are looking up. He should be home tomorrow.
The attorney said his records will be sealed and that juvenile adjudication of delinquency is not that same as conviction of a crime so he should answer no on his application. He seems to have matured quite abit and I’m praying he has learned from this and will stay on a straight path!
Be very careful on how the questions are worded and how he answers. There are some government forms and clearances that ask if you have ever been arrested, and he must answer yes. Sealed records does not mean no one has access. Just a warning.
Yes, the attorney says he has to answer yes to being arrested and that his record is is discoverable by government and certain health organizations. He understands that…it’s all part of the price you pay.
Things are looking up, and UC Blue Ash is a great system. In two years’ time, if he does well, he’ll be a student enrolled regularly at UC, and on his way to a degree. No one will have to know these 2 years of his teenage life. It’s all up to him now.
Sounds like you have a great plan and an excellent attorney. Good luck OP.
A big kudos to MYOS1634 for a wonderful post!
