Is it possible for a full-time college student to have two on-campus part-time jobs?

I am currently a research assistant ($7.50/hr, 3-5 hrs/wk). I got an email from a department seeking my assistance because they desperately need minority students to represent my major to parents, visitors and prospective students. They saw me as one of those perfect candidates.

The second job pays $15.50/hr and 4-6 hrs/wk. Oh god ($$$…).

So help me: I can’t ditch my first job (i’m on contract until June for it). Is it possible to do both? And not sacrifice my schoolwork?

I do have the option to accept it for the 2005 - 2006 school year (which I am highly considering).

My daughter usually works 10-12 hours a week- some students at other schools work much more
I think you have lots of room to add more hours to your work schedule

I worked full-time as a server while I was in undergrad, in engineering also full-time. I’m sure you can handle 11 hours/week. If not, you can always let your boss(es) know that you need to step back a bit on the hours.

Go for it, and if you have to gently cut back on the lower paying job in weekly hours…they may be quite willing to overlook the contract if you take the high road and show up when expected.

Not everyone can handle it, but I was working a consistent 25-30 hours a week as an undergrad. I’m at about 32 right now for my stint in Washington, and I do fine with 12 units.

I worked 2 jobs, close to 40 hrs a wk. BUT, I am responding because I think it is important for URM students and parents to see successful students. So, please consider. :)

It depends on the job - but the hours you describe sound reasonable. My son had 2 campus jobs for awhile - like yours, one was an opportunity to make far more money- and both together were less than 15 hours.

this past fall semester i was working about 25 hours a week at my one job and about 5 at my other job… and that was with 18 credits. I wound up with a 3.75 GPA that semester too.
