Hello everyone!
It’s June and I just caught my mistake I made on my College Application, I inputted the wrong birthdate. I submitted my FAFSA back in early January. I am wondering if this is going to greatly affect the amount of money I’m going to receive?
Today I have submitted the required documents and forms to change my error to my university - it takes 3-7 days to process.
Friends have informed me that they received their financial aid award amount as early as April.
My college informed me that they received my FAFSA app. but couldn’t match it to my records due to the birthdate error.
My error was the day of my birthday, I used my correct month and year.
If you are really 18 and put in that you were 26, yes, it will make a difference. If you are 18 and put you were19, but you used the correct information when getting your FSA ID, you should be fine.
We had a similar thing with switching two numbers on the SS number…so that didn’t match for one of our kids. BUT we caught the error very early on. We contacted the school, and they corrected it…and financial aid was sent very quickly.
The error we made was also on the college application.
But my question…did you commit to attending this college without knowing your financial aid? Had you contacted them prior to May 1 to see why you hadn’t received a financial aid award?
The school never contacted US at all. We noticed that the financial aid award didn’t come…and we contacted the school.
The question is…why didn’t the OP notice this before May1 when he had to make a matriculation choice. If he hadn’t received a financial aid award prior to having to choose a college, he should have been contacting the college to find out why…especially since this appears to be his choice for matriculation.
So…why did it take until June for this to happen?
All that aside, now that it’s been fixed, the school should be able to match the FAFSA to the applicant, mand all should be fine.
