<p>As long as you’re revealing stuff about yourself that cannot be known from elsewhere in the application and it is well written, I say go for it! If you do this right, your essay might offer a bit of humour in the otherwise boring stacks of essays admission officers are so used to read. If you wish, I’d be glad to take a look at it when you finish it. </p>
