Hi everyone, thank you for taking your time to read my thread. I am currently a Junior at Ward Melville High School and I have started to think about ideas for a college essay that I will write when I apply to colleges next year. I have an idea of what my topic will be for the common application, however I do know that most schools will request for you to write a specific essay.
Common Application Essay Idea:
I have participated in Civil War re-enacting since I entered sixth grade. I participate as a Field Musician in the 119 NYSV Union Regiment based out of Old Bethpage Restoration Village in Bethpage, New York. It is a community service organization because everything is volunteer and we constantly put on events and performances for the community. I have traveled all over the East Coast. As south as Virginia and as North as Massachusetts for my re-enactments. Since 6th grade I have put in hundreds of hours of community service through this organization.
Thank You!!!

I’m not so sure what the point of this thread is, but I’ll assume you want comments about that idea; it sounds like a very good idea, and so long as you can communicate your passion for historical re-enactments (and on a broader level, why you like doing them), it could be very effective…

A word to the wise–you’ve already given way too much identifying info about yourself–you should be anonymous as possible on a forum like this. Nothing to be gained from naming your high school and town, especially since you’ve specified an EC that is rather unusual and also helps to identify you.

As to your post, I think your experiences in Civil War reenactment could be a very good basis for an essay, so long as you make it a personal statement rather than just a recitation of your activities and travel.
