college application, too many blanks?

My daughter is a rising senior. She is concerned because she has good ec’s to put down for junior and senior year, but nothing for 9th and 10th. She was a slow starter and is now involved with activities that go along with her proposed major. Her grades are very good and her SATs are above average. Does she need to explain the lack of school activities for her first two years or just focus on her current ec’s?

Does she have outside activities, like Church/youth group, bowling team, outside volunteer work?

My son had some blank areas too. Many people don’t dabble in everything. A trumpet player might have the sport’s section blank and vice versa. My son was honest, and the blanks did not effect his admission. He did have strong ECs, but no particpation in some areas. My son had a peer who participated in virtually nothing in hs. He had outside ECs like photography, and taking informal night classes in Japanese. He was admitted to some really high ranked schools. Hope this helps.
