College Applications Can be too Good

…so much for the perfect essay! My D will like this. ;)

It makes you wonder how admissions reps would have the time to do this sleuthing. Easier to just throw the file in the reject pile.

LOL, I wonder what happens when the SAT writing sample sounds suspiciously stronger than the personal statement…Just a thought…My d’s personal statement was REALLY in her own voice, while her SAT essay was more like an AP English paper…Hmmmmmm. Definitely not a match, but for different reasons…

And, yes, how would they have the time with the double digit increases in applications to actually deal with this kind of investigation…It reinforces my previous opinion that essays are not read until a student passes some kind of stats threshold…

Mathson’s SAT essays were mediocre at best - he freezes with creative writing and 25 minutes is nothing. He wrote fine essays for the APs where he knew the subject matter. I’d hate for anyone to think that the SAT represents the kind of writing he’s capable of. (He’s not a gifted writer, but he writes competent, well organized, succinct prose when he must.)
