Hi,
New to this forum. I actually had a simple question. My son is a junior in high school, getting ready to apply for some colleges. He did not do so well on SAT, and has low GPA. I am going to have him take ACT with preparation class, but it is not until October.

Question-Should we wait to apply for colleges until after he gets his new ACT scores, (hopefully better). Or, just apply and send the current SAT scores, with understanding he will take ACT, later? Will he get rejected right away based on current SAT scores?

I think I’d wait. If he does well on the ACT, you won’t be sending the SAT at all. An October test sitting is plenty of time for regular decision applications to be completed and sent.

Agree with thumper. If he didn’t do well on the SAT and you are hoping a different result with the ACT, there’s no reason to send in the application so quickly. If he does well on the ACT, you may be applying to some more different colleges.

Agree you should wait, but keep in mind that the GPA is far more significant in terms of admissions – so you need to find colleges where his GPA will be acceptable.
