My friend, who is in UCB now, told me that I should take as many Humanity courses as I can during my high school years. He said that I should definitely take APUSH and AP English before I go to college because a passing grade on the AP exam will allow me to bypass a few semesters in college.

Do these “breadth requirements” apply to any college? I’m planning on majoring in the math/sciences/medical area so he told me that taking humanities is very important because I can skip some of the breadth courses and focus on my major.

However, most colleges say that they don’t accept AP credit for the breadth courses (except APUSH) but they will allow transferable courses from local community colleges. Can someone tell me how the system works? Thanks
