College Calculus?

Hey guys. Right now, I’m taking college calculus from a local community college for dual credit. I believe it’s like calc 106 at UNL… Because they transfer over to the university. We’re covering what they cover in a semester throughout the whole school year, if that makes sense… SO we’re going at a much slower pace than what would happen at the college level.

Anyway… I’m having a pretty hard time with that class. This makes me very weary about the classes at UChicago. If I’m struggling with this class, how would I survive at UChicago!!!

Any thoughts?

Well, struggling with math doesn’t necessarily imply that you’ll struggle in everything else. Calculus would help with some core science classes, but other than that–you need something beyond precalculus for the [gen ed requirements](<a href=“http://collegecatalog.uchicago.edu/pdf_10/Curr.pdf"]gen”>http://collegecatalog.uchicago.edu/pdf_10/Curr.pdf). This may be met with regular or honors calculus (150s and 160s respectively) or beyond, or you can take certain computer science courses. There’s a placement test that determines where you are in your math education, and it will put you into whatever sequence you need. I wouldn’t worry too much about getting in over your head in math, even at UChicago. As long as you study and do your homework, you can reasonably expect to keep up.

You can also take other classes to fulfill the core such Studies in Mathematics or Statistics. But yeah, as wisteriawings stated, math is only one subject. There are lots of things that can contribute to success: teachers, book you are using; just to name a few.
