Other
I sang in a renown children’s choir until 8th grade and was selected alongside others to represent the choir at the Hong Kong handover ceremony in 1997. With the choir, I visited countries such as Egypt, Greece, Italy, Germany, Finland, Russia, Siberia, and the Czech Republic.
I have gone on service trips to help out at children’s orphanages in Mongolia and Vietnam.
I have given live art performances with Hong Kong band Queen Elephantine at underground music concerts.
I have done freelance editing, illustration, and graphic design gigs with various companies and individuals.

Can you tell us your rank and the number of students in your graduating class? This is what Brown will use to determine your admission status.

Thanks,

P.S. Impressive list of ECs and test scores.

My school does not rank. I have about 230 students in my class, and I would probably be in the top 10-15%.

Thanks for helping out!

You seem to share alot of the schools i’m interested in as well as roughly identical stats (although your EC’s are definitely more impressive). My advice to you is to think carefully about having Reed on your list; even the people I know that went there had unfavorable experiences with the social scene (unless you’re into the whole self-important avante-guard “OMGZ i’m a philosopher” indie scene). basically, it’s UChicago minus the top-of-the notch academic reputation and people with real intelligence to back up their eccentricity. This isn’t to say that Reed is a bad school, I just want to make sure that you’re aware of a major criticism of the school.

Brown University ED–reach
Northwestern University–slight reach to reach
University of Chicago–slight reach to reach
Middlebury College–match
Pomona College–reach
Reed College–match to slight reach
USC (Legacy)–match to slight reach

Your GPA is lower than the norm at every school on your list, but your test scores and ECs should get you in at probably two or possibly even three of these schools.

You need some real matches (some schools with a 3.6 to 3.7 UW GPA average), and a safety to go with these “mostly reach” schools you have listed, just to be on the safe side.

Hm, thanks for the heads-up rameses. I visited Reed just this summer, and I really dug the place’s general vibe. There weren’t many students around, however, so I can’t really agree/disagree with your comment about the social scene.

It just sounds so awesome there, with the whole Renn Fayre and such.

–

Calcruzer, thanks for the feedback! I’m definitely looking into several safe matches. Do you have any you could suggest?

My low GPA is partially because of a relatively rocky freshman year (3.1 my first semester), which I hope they will forgive, and also because of serious grade deflation. Also, colleges know that my school’s grade system is tough. Various students from the just-graduated class had GPAs 3.0-3.5 are going to Georgetown, UMich, and Cornell.

I’m confident that I will write some nice, creative essays. I also plan to submit an art/writing portfolio supplement.

Bump (don’t be shy now!)

Does anyone know of other schools that I could look into?

PM ramses. He’s not getting into anything above Reed.

I’m not getting into anything above Reed, or ramses? I’ve looked at his stats, they’re generally darn stellar, so I’m guessing you’re talking about me.

And you know what? I disagree with you.

hahaha dude he was talking about me, and your stats are significantly more impressive than mine. regardless, learn to ignore bobby100, I took him sort of seriously until he started making racial comments and thats when you just start ignoring him.

bobby100: come on man, do you realize how pathetic you are? fine, i have terrible stats and am not going to get into any good colleges, i’ve got your point–but why do you keep trying to turn this into some idiotic online vendetta? you’re 24, get a life.

Dude, I saw your stats, they’re great. Quite a few people on CC are ungodly, gradegrubbing fools, so no worries.

Actually, the band that you played with was Fashionista, even though all its members are in Queen Elephantine. I happen to be a big fan of their very attractive and talented guitarist/vocalist Indy Shome, and I make a point of following all of his projects and related members very carefully.

You will be doing live art for Queen Elephantine on the coming 8th of September.

I didn’t know you were an advert actor.
