College changed required courses

So I was denied my adt by my jc because they changed the required course for oral communications. I had an Ed plan made in 2012 had no breaks in school, took the class in fall 2014. Now they’re telling me they changed to a different class in 2014 and have to take another one now if I want to transfer to my local csu. Can they do this? Seems unethical if not worse.

You need to look every year for updates and changes. Not looking since 2012 was a lapse. It is now almost the end of 2015 and it was changed in 2014.

Were you seeing an advisor regularly? There are worksheets that one should be updating and checking.

I think you will need to take the extra class.

You’ll most likely need to take the class if you want to get your ADT, if that is what a counselor is telling you to do.

Why did the class change? Is it an accreditation issue? Something very similar happened to me this semester, where the CCC Accreditation committee took away Comm 20 - Interpersonal Communications from the course list of acceptable communications courses that satisfy the Oral Communications requirement for CSUs, and I had no idea until half-way through the semester. But I found out through a counselor that since I have been going to the school since 2013 I have catalog rights and the class will still be valid for me.

For the ADT program you may have no option but to take the new requirement. You don’t give the name of your CC, and I imagine rules may differ between CC’s, but at least one says this:

It may be different at your CC, though.

^^^^ he’s right. I didn’t realize that it varies at schools. My school allows catalog rights for all degrees, but apparently they are different for every school so I would look into it at your specific school.
