College Choices on CSS?

So, I have just completed my CSS prfile and I just discovered that U of M sees the colleges you chose as your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices. Will this be a factor in admissions? Why do we even need to put our top college choices?

Thank you!

Anyone know?

just dont submit that until you hear from Umich. what are you a transfer or fresh - i dont think that has to be in till the spring for frosh and december 12th for transfer?? correct me if i am wrong though

Freshman… so we don’t have to send in the CSS with our application?

i dont think so. check on the Financial Aid website - from Umich fin aid website -

Entering freshmen and transfer students must complete two applications to apply for aid:

The College Scholarship Service (CSS) PROFILE and

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Information on these forms determines your expected family contribution and your eligibility for aid programs. Be sure to submit these forms by the deadline dates listed below to be considered for all aid programs (use estimated tax information if necessary). Although you may apply later, you might not be considered for all aid programs. We must receive your FAFSA and PROFILE information by the April 30 priority filing date to consider you for all aid programs. Do not wait to be admitted before applying for aid!

so you could risk it and apply and send it in - or you could wait and risk losing some cash - but the admissions committee wont look at the fin aid stuff - they cannot make a decision based on socioeconomic standing given it is illegal - affirmative action was the exception but that has been voted down - so they have no reason to look at the forms to base a decision and a lot of schools don’t care if you are going to apply to other places - they know you will so they wont judge you based on where yo want to go - only if you have the type of personality and grades they want.

So what’s the deadline for the CSS?

Nope, the admissions office doesn’t look at whether you submit the CSS or in what order.

“We must receive your FAFSA and PROFILE information by the April 30 priority filing date to consider you for all aid programs.”

Thank you, everyone!
