<p>Haha, I’m actually considering taking a freshman seminar next quarter as well. The introductory class sizes at my school are huge and it would be nice to take a class with only a dozen other students. I’m torn between choosing ones that cover interesting topics, or are in really cool buildings (I know, my priorities are totally in the right place).</p>
<p>@Coriander23 - I feeeeeel you. My school just opened a new science complex and I seriously considered taking an unnecessary science lecture next semester. lol.

<p>I actually find freshman seminars pretty nice! I currently have one on psychology and the legal system, something I have no interest in pursuing outside of the class, but it is something interesting to take a course on. It brings up interesting class discussions which is great alongside 3 other intro classes I am taking with many people in it. Although the school definitely does its share in keeping the class sizes smaller than most</p>
<p>Got a 90 on my second calc midterm!! First A I’ve ever received in an honors/AP math class … but the class average was also a 90, so that sort of killed my enthusiasm a bit lol :(.</p>
<p>But it’s cool. I got a 1 on the AB exam and half of the kids in my class got a 4 or 5 on the BC exam, so I’m feeling pretty prime.</p>

<p>Today my English professor moved our class to 3pm (from 9am) because a guest lecturer came to speak - and oh my God. I hate afternoon classes. I can’t deal. I was so exhausted afterwards and I ended up on the train during peak rush hour. Nope. Nu-uh. I want none of that. I’m gonna try to rework my schedule. I’d take an 8am over a 3pm any day. </p>
<p>Edit: I’m amending my statement. I don’t hate afternoon classes. I hate large gaps/breaks in my schedule. Normally my MWF schedule is 9-10:50 (two classes, back to back) - so I’m in and out if I choose - or if I want to/have to stay, I can. But today, since the first class was moved, I had a huge gap from 10:50 to 3pm. I already had my homework for tomorrow done, and I’m not the type of person who can motivate myself to do work weeks in advance. This is one of the qualms of commuting. </p>

And I’m not a big fan of afternoon classes either–my schedule for next quarter consists of mostly afternoon lectures, but then again, I’m planning on <em>ahem</em> self-studying a lot. Maybe I’ll get used to 600 people lectures eventually…Your back-to-back schedule sounds pretty awesome. I try to schedule mine the same way because I know there’s no way I’d get any work done in a one or two hour gap. </p>
<p>I hate any gaps in my schedule. On MWF I have an 8 and 9 am, and then I have an hour break before my 11 am, and it’s a class I don’t like. I hate having a one-hour break in between classes. I come from a high school that had nine periods a day, so I’m used to going from one class to another. Having an hour break before a class that I don’t like doesn’t help my cause, either. I’m just always tempted to skip. I never have, but I always think about it.</p>
<p>Next semester, I will have a gap, but it’s only going to be once a week, so I think I will manage. </p>
<p>A lot of my friends have those lengthy gaps. I guess they can be a good thing in some scenerios, but my campus is small, so there’s not much to do. </p>
<p>Oh, and speaking of gaps, my chemistry professor is canceling class for Friday because a lot of students are leaving for break. So, I have my 8 am and 11 am classes, and that gives me a TWO-hour break on Friday. I’m tempted just to skip.</p>
<p>I love my 600+ microeconomics class. Idk but a super big class is kind of fun for me.</p>
<p>Those gaps are when I nap. Today: sleep from 4am-8:45, class from 9-9:50, nap from 10:00-10:45, class from 11-11:50, nap from 12:15pm-3:00, study, class from 5:00-5:50, study/dinner from 6:00-12:00am, chill from 12:00am-4:00, repeat. Currently chilling and bingeing on the West Wing.</p>

One hour gaps are the worst for me. So like I personally don’t find it that far to get from place to place, but the time it takes is not negligible. I have a gap that I could technically use for lunch, but I eat rather slowly so it doesn’t work out that well… </p>
<p>I only have one gap next year - its on Tuesdays, 10:45 to 12:30… it’s driving me insane because at my school, if you take Calc, you’re gonna end up with a gap since Calc is one extra hour on a scheduled day, so there’s always gonna be another day where there’s at least an hour separating Calc and your next class, and you can’t schedule anything in between because then it would conflict with the other day/days your Calc class meets for that additional hour. </p>
<p>There are places known to be good for napping on campus but I know I could never bring myself to 1) sleep in public and 2) not oversleep. Just because we don’t have the luxury of dorms doesn’t mean we need to start sleeping on the 6th floor of the library. </p>
<p>Good morning guys! I finally managed to register for classes this morning. Gotta love waking up at 5 am, haha. I did manage to get my ideal schedule, so I’m pretty happy about that. </p>

<p>In other news, I got an A on my Environmental midterm. He curved the living daylights out of it though - anything higher than a 70% was an A. But I’m still thrilled, I was worried about it since I handed it in. </p>
<p>Gaps are annoying, but they worked out for me this semester because my gaps are long enough for me to go into work for a few hours.
Is anybody else working already? I know the general consensus was to wait till second semester or sophomore year, so I feel like there might not be many of us workin’ students!</p>

<p>Awesome, preamble! The scores for our second major essays in my English class were finally released. My professor had them for a MONTH and hadn’t given them back to us until now. I got an “A” on the essay, which makes me so happy. I’m on the borderline between an A and an A- in that class. Hopefully, I can maintain the A! Being on the border is too close for comfort for me. </p>
<p>@CheerOutLoud I work on the weekends at a local grocery store, which gives me enough money. I hate working on school nights; I get too stressed.</p>
<p>@CheerOutLoud - I know a lot of people at my school (first semester Freshman) who work - one friend of mine works at a Dunkin Donuts and I think she works something like 3pm to closing 5 days a week, plus some weekend shifts. I have other friends who work (usually not more than 15 hours a week) and they’re doing quite well academically. </p>
<p>@Violet1996 - I didn’t really know what curving was until I entered this class. The closest I had ever come to seeing a “curve” was that my Calc and Bio teachers in high school used to add the number of points between the highest grade and a 100% to everyone’s score - so if the highest grade was a 93, for instance, everyone got 7 points tacked on their grades. But the curves in my Enviro class are really intense. I think you needed to get lower than a 22% to get an F I believe. </p>
<p>@NewBeginnings3 - What are the major components of your English grade? Does homework/attendance/participation factor in? </p>
<p>@NewBeginnings3 I work for a campus department so they’re super flexible with scheduling since all the employees are students. We’re not even open weekends!</p>
<p>As far as curves go I don’t really have any classes that curve in the traditional sense. My chem prof normalizes lab grades at the end of the semester if the grades from a few TAs seem wonky, and he does a sort of arbitrary “curve” that makes a 90% an A instead of an A-, an 87% an A- instead of a B+, and so on. In my Spanish class the prof will bump you up if you’re on the cusp if she’s noticed you’ve been putting effort into getting a good grade.</p>
<p>I do have one prof that doesn’t believe in exams though, and that’s awesome. Just essays for that class!</p>
