College Class 2018

@preamble1776 Definitely not! None of my classes need the 2 hours for each hour spent in class thing. I’d say on a busy week I might spend one hour outside of class for every hour in class working on school work. I spend a little less time on slow weeks.

Last semester I did have a project that I spent 10-20 hours a week on (just the project) for about 4-5 weeks. Those weeks I probably got close to the 2-3 hours outside class for every hour in class target. Otherwise I just don’t need that kind of studying for my classes.

Other than homework, last semester I didn’t really do any additional preparation or studying except in the days leading up to a test/midterm/final. But I took only low level general ed requirements. Next semester I’m taking a major class + Calculus + a minor class, and two general eds, so I imagine I’m going to have to increase the amount of time I dedicate to studying outside of class, especially for the major class and Calculus.

The only time I ever spent a few hours outside of class was when I had to do my lab reports for sociology and my essays for English. Other than that, I never adhered to the 3 hours for every hour of class rule.

I honestly believe that it depends upon what classes you take. For engineering students, I’m sure they adhere to that rule.

I got a job as a residence hall tour guide! I’ll be starting in the spring–10 bucks an hour sounds like a solid starting salary, haha. Now I’m just waiting on the status of my campus tour guide application.

I’ve been pretty lazy this quarter, unfortunately, and it’s starting to show. It really came to a head today in my Rocks for Jocks class when every varsity athlete at my table could describe different tectonic plate shift mechanisms and I was like…what chapter are we on again?

@Coriander23‌ Are the jocks at your table cute? (semi srs question)

The one thing I don’t like about online classes is that the online quizzes do no let you go back and check or change your answers, so you have to be 100% sure of yourself when you take them. It makes me nervous! Lol.

Is the 2-3 hours supposed to include homework, or just extra studying?
I definitely spend that much time on my classes with regular homework/papers, but not the ones without it.

I don’t pay attention to that. @preamble1776 15 credits is the standard.

I was pretty close to the 2 hour guideline last semester, if you include homework, papers, readings, etc as well as extra study time.

I’m taking 19 credits this semester (only 16 last semester, 3 of which were complete BS) so I may not have the time to dedicate to each class like semester, though.

engineeringprobs

I have been at school for 4 days and I’ve already yelled at an RA (accidentally of course) and twisted my ankle on some ice. I’m so done with the semester already.

I start school tomorrow and a huge blizzard is hitting most of Massachusetts and Rhode Island tomorrow afternoon - weather reports are saying an upwards of 28+ inches in Boston with 60+ mph winds. One newscast I was listening to said, and I quote, “people will probably die.” It is supposedly going to be historic.

.

Do you wanna build a snowman?

Edit:
It’s currently on the front page of CNN - “‘Historic’ Storm could hit Massachusetts”
I’m kinda scared.

@preamble1776‌ SNOW DAY

@Violet1996‌ - Probably more like snow dayS. This is kind of terrifying, LOL.

Just got a CNN alert about your storm, preamble…have fun  We’re only getting 4-8 inches down in MD

There’s this really big hill on campus and my friend has been texting me all afternoon about sledding. Meanwhile, every local news channel is absolutely hysterical.

It’s gonna be bigger than the storm of '78 which was like snowmageddon for MA.

If it is as bad as they say it’s gonna be (and the NYC mayor is essentially saying to anticipate the worst you could possibly imagine) - they’ll probably cancel class for the week.

Wow, that’s crazy. It’s been really nice here in the Pacific Northwest. Today was shorts and t-shirt weather!

But it is exciting! The snowstorm might reach here too.

So thanks to my warped sleeping patters over break, I can’t fall asleep (I went to bed at 10 and woke up at 1am) - I logged onto Blackboard and my Int’l Relations professor posted all of the readings for the semester (I guess he can’t sleep either? lol) so now I’m reading them.

Womp womp.

I think its crazy that all you guys in the east are going to be slammed with snow. The same system just went through the Midwest and we got 1-2 inches. Weather is just so amazing!

No classes Tuesday or Wednesday. I’m not complaining, lol. The school gave us free hats and mittens this morning.
