College Class 2018

Looks like our side of the country missed the memo, haha. It’s a balmy 60 degrees today and almost feels like spring! But a couple days off doesn’t sound bad at all.

I’m kind of excited to brave East Coast weather next winter, though…I like my current school and everything, but its academics leave a lot to be desired.

@Coriander23‌ East Coast = Beast Coast

I feel like I’m the only one on the west coast? lol. yeah it was really sunny and felt too warm for a sweater.

CLASS 2019!!! Here I come.

** West Coast = Best Coast ** :-c

My father is boiling a bunch of potatoes in the kitchen and storing them because of the blizzard. I feel like a pilgrim.

We got 6 inches where I live. Luckily, I don’t have class on Mondays, so I didn’t have to drive to school in it. Stay safe, @preamble1776‌!

Thank you @NewBeginnings3‌

My city closed schools for the week - so my siblings are calling it “January vacation.” I don’t think my school will close for the week, though.

Today was my first day of classes. I’m not sure how I feel about my Calculus class just quite yet - the professor seems nice and he does this whole “first let me explain the concept to you using stick figures and smiley faces, and then we can tackle the rigorous mathematical definition.” He said that if we had prior exposure to Calculus, like with AP Calc, we should have an “easier” time in the class but we shouldn’t assume the class will be a cake walk. His TA holds extra credit/extra help sessions every week that I’m probably gonna take advantage of.

However, I LOVE my International Relations class - the whole set up is designed to ensure you get the highest grade possible. If we have no more than one absence (unexcused) for the semester, we get to skip the final if we have at least a B average. He also drops the two lowest grades and our weekly quizzes have a baseline of 70 - so if you show up, write your name on the quiz, and hand it in blank, you get a 70, lol. Plus I’ve been getting ahead in the readings and it is all so interesting - economic policy, security studies, etc. It’s great. 10/10 LOL.

I’ve picked out my classes for next quarter! These are the classes I’ll (most likely) be taking:

Ceramics - Handbuilding
Environmental Science
The Urban Farm (hands-on work on the university farm)

I love how my first class is at 11, but I am wide awake at 6 a.m. If I had a class at 8, however, I would probably be really tired. It’s funny how the body works.

I looked at my school’s registrar office online, and the course schedule for fall will be posted on Monday, February 16th. I’m glad they’re posting it early so that I can see what classes I can take and at what time. I’m hoping none of the classes I want/need to take conflict with one another.

Oh, and a “January vacation” does sound nice, but if I was a senior in high school, I wouldn’t be happy to be in school an extra week in the summer.

I got an iPad Mini for Christmas and it is hands down one of the most useful gifts I have ever received - I have my two biggest textbooks saved on iBooks and I just downloaded all of the PDFs of the supplementary reading for all of my classes and have them organized by class name, author, and date due on iBooks as well. I literally don’t have to print out anything (I used to obsessively print out everything). I also have the syllabi for all my classes saved too. It’s great.

Totally putting off researching the economic implications of a nearby river. I really, really don’t care about the river. I mean, glad it’s there and all, but that’s the extent of my interest.

I hate college. Ready to graduate.

I don’t mind college. I like my professors so far (I have yet to meet one because of snow days but the other three are seem very good) and my classes this semester all seem interesting. I commute an hour which kinda detracts from my “college experience,” but I’m still enjoying it.

I like college. I commute, too, so I don’t have the whole “college package,” but I do enjoy the freedoms with college and the classes that I have taken and am taking right now.

I don’t hate it, but I’m ready to graduate as well. I want to get on to law school.

I hate when professors say, “Today’s lecture will be boring.” If I don’t like the lecture, that sucks. If I do like the lecture, my tastes are defective. I can’t win.

I dont like because so far it has been the worst couple of months in my life.

Okay, @RedThunder, I’ve seen your posts, and you know what? You don’t HAVE to go to college. If there are other avenues that appeal to you, then consider taking them. You should see a counselor or talk to your family members about this, because venting on an anonymous message board isn’t going to accomplish much other than spread needless negativity.

My roommate at my college’s overnight orientation stole my car keys, so I do sympathize with random idiots taking stuff that isn’t theirs. But if you’re going to let one negative experience cloud over your entire collegiate (or anything) career, then what’s the point? Are you going to stop reading books because one of them gave you a papercut or stop driving because you backed your car into someone’s mailbox? Come on now.

Most people do enjoy college, and if you don’t, then that’s fine. But please don’t try to make everyone else hate it (I’ve lost count of how many vitriol-filled threads you’ve either created or bumped up with seemingly no plans to improve the situation) so that they can commiserate with you. Good luck!

@violet1996 - I heard my school has a bet going with yours where if the Seahawks win then you feed us seafood and vice versa!

(sorry for any typos, I’m on mobile)

=))
