College Class 2018

Today my Religious Studies professor asked the class if anyone knew what language the (Christian, New Testament) Bible had originally been written in and someone blurted out “German?” I mean, I can understand thinking Hebrew, or Aramaic, but German?

^Hahaha! Possible thought process: Jesus -> Jew -> Nazi -> German. Bingo!

I like college better because I’m trying things that I wouldn’t have been able to try at home. For example, my Linguistics course, which is actually really interesting! However, one thing I will say, is that I don’t like college because of the food. Honestly, some days I can’t even eat anything. Can’t wait until I no longer live in dorms.

I love food produced in large quantities

said no one ever.

My school’s food is okay. The breakfast is probably the best, but I wouldn’t call it “good food” and it certainly isn’t something I find myself craving ever. There’s an omelette bar in the morning which is probably the best that they offer - you can pick any (or all) of the 15 ingredients and then the cook prepares it for you and its served with a side of home fries and sausage. I’d say its like a 6/10 with a 10 being mouth watering and a 1 being repulsive/inedible.

My school’s food is also okay for the most part, but there are certain cafes on campus that are really good! I think it’s because they’re the ones all the Microsoft and Deloitte people (depending on the department) frequent.

The coffee I’d say is spot-on, but then again I’ve never been a big coffee drinker until this year, so I may be a bit biased.

@Coriander23‌ lol as if the Seahawks are gonna win  Is your school going into lockdown mode tomorrow? The guest and dining policies for tomorrow are ridiculous and if there’s going to be any rioting, it’s going to be over the new rules. =/

I mean, the only logical reason I’d think German would be if the prof asked what language the Bible was first printed in.

BPD is shutting down almost all of Boston’s college neighborhoods at half time.

I’m not sure if they are, but after all the students rioted and burned a bunch of couches to celebrate last year, I think the campus police department will be alert this time around haha.

All this talk about football and I’m not even sure who to watch it with! I was originally going to my cousins’ house, but they apparently got tickets to the game and are in Arizona already. I might stick around on campus for all the fun shenanigans if we do end up winning back to back.

@Violet1996 - Really looking forward to that tasty seafood. Let’s gooo B-)

@Coriander23‌ Come at me bro :)>-

They’ve put in some super strict guest policies and they’re basically shutting down a res area at like 8. After the riots at Blarney and the Red Sox Championship of 2k13, I think the administration is just done with all of us. =/

Boston’s getting 8-12 inches of snow - some colleges have already closed for tomorrow.

I quit CollegeConfidential

Brady, you handsome son of a gun.

Also, classes were cancelled for tomorrow because of the storm. Is it bad that my initial reaction to hearing about school closing was excitement at the opportunity to get ahead in all of my classes…

@preamble1776 It wasn’t the snow; the profs were all too excited about the Pats to teach

@Vctory - My city’s mayor tweeted that he was closing schools so he could watch the postgame, LOL.

So my Calculus professor has basically given up all hope on trying to keep up with the syllabus at this point (we’ve missed more class sessions than we’ve actually had) - so he revised it and cut some topics out. I’m not complaining. We were supposed to start derivatives next week, but he pushed it a week back. Instead of rushing us through topics, he decided he just wouldn’t teach certain topics. Seems like a recipe for disaster for all the Engineering and Math majors who need to actually understand Calculus… Luckily, I’m Poli Sci.

A poll: How many of you do all the assigned readings?

@dextrous‌
What do you mean by assigned readings (for liberal arts or STEM classes, textbooks or articles)?

I try and read the textbook for every section we cover in the class but I don’t cover it before every class. I usually just go through it in bulk on the weekends.

Most people don’t usually read their STEM textbooks (especially math), but I usually find it enlightening.

I typically wait until midterm time, then read everything I should have read earlier.

My data structures class had an assignment worth 27 points. The class average was 11.91 and the median was 6.75. I’m not sure what to make of it. :-S
