Definitely use notecards for reference, but don’t stand there and read every word off of them!
I also prefer having a printer in my room. There are places on campus I can print for free, but they’re not convenient.

Ugh, I always get worked up over speech class, LOL. Even though it’s a two-minure speech, I just get so nervous. I’m always worried that I’ll go up to the front of the class and just forget what I am supposed to say.
Spring break is here! B-)
@NewBeginnings3
The way to go is to script the speech and treat it like a performance. That’s what works for me.
Hey everyone! c/o 17 here. Anyway about speeches- try the notecards see how that works for you. Personally for me having notecards means that I’ll look at them. I always wing my speeches, and by winging it I mean a 3 slide presentation was due (pictures) with a 4 minute speech about my hometown and I did the powerpoint at 8:45 when class started at 9…
@Jazzii God level.
I failed my math midterm (like legitly failed) and I have a midterm tomorrow that I don’t feel that comfortable about because I spent too long being depressed about the math one. But on the other hand, after I take that midterm, I’m basically done, since spring break is next week!
Spring break is over in a few hours. Where’d the time go?
I failed my history midterm- I suffer from anxiety and I literally had a panic attack because I freaked out since its 1 of 3 grades we get, I called my mom in tears talking about how hard college is and maybe it wasn’t for me… My teacher said I might be able to make it up by doubling the length of my paper so it’s 14-20 instead of 7-10…
@Jazzii - On the one hand it sucks that your paper is now 14+ pages but on the bright side, you’re getting an opportunity to raise your grade that you wouldn’t otherwise had, just try to make the most of it. Good planning and dividing the work into manageable chunks will make 14 pages seem like nothing (I have accidentally written 15+ pages for assignments that had 5 page minimums; so it certainly can be done.) Good luck.
(Edit. Me complaining about nonsense that’s not important.)
Man, I legitimately failed my Geology final last week and felt super bummed about it as well. I had over 100 going into the test and didn’t study as much for it as I probably should’ve. I needed around a low B to ace the class and ended up getting a 45%. Yup. And that was with a letter grade’s worth of extra credit added to the final.
I ended up with a 3.5 (B+) in the class and am actually * really * relieved. It’s just frustrating to know I was maybe 15 questions away from an A in the class, especially when it was Rocks for Jocks of all things. I mean, I’d rather learn this lesson from a class that could actually absorb that amount of grading damage (pretty sure flunking the final means getting a C in a lot of courses), but I’ll know to be a lot more careful with my classes from now on.
I’m on spring break and finally watched Big Hero 6.
I have my schedule for the fall semester:
MAE370 Mechanics of materials
MAE370L Lab for above class
MAE272 Dynamics
MA238 applied differential equations
PH112 physics 2 with calculus
PH115 the honors lab for the above
14 credit hours
Everything is moving so fast and increasing in difficulty exponentially. The transition from being a student in rural Alabama highschool to an engineering major at a 4 year university is insane.
My tentative schedule for the fall includes:
Number Theory
Complex Analysis
Software systems w/lab (coreq to other CS class, only .5 unit)
Computer Organization w/lab
Cultural Musicology (
)
Auditing either Contemporary Dance 1 or Movement Improvisation (same prof, haven’t decided)
Rep class (music major/minor requirement)
Primary Private Lessons
Secondary Private Lessons
Orchestra
That’s 7 units, which is approx 24.5 credits. Im really annoyed because the music theory course I was supposed to take is at the same time as software systems, so I have to take musicology instead (which I guess I have to take anyways, but I’m trying to put them off lol). Im worried about getting into number theory, since its a special topic (don’t know when its being offered again) and with a good professor, so all the math majors are probably gonna try to get into that course. My registration isn’t until April 9th.
I registered today for my summer courses at a different university. I’m taking an intensive Italian course, which will hopefully fulfill my gen ed language requirement. I’m really looking forward to the course!
I met with my advisor today and he told me “officially” that I’ll be graduating in the Spring of 2017.
I’m taking:
Political Theory (Major)
Political Parties (Major)
Paganism in the Roman Empire (Minor)
Honors Elective - Reimagining America’s Future (Honors)
Introduction to Women’s Studies (Diversity requirement) – I might change to this to a different class on 19th century American culture.
If I have to stay at my current university, my class schedule will be: Precalculus, Intro to Macroeconomics, US/Texas Constitution & Politics (Honors), Intermediate Chinese I (Honors) and then one other random class that will fulfill the state mandated requirements.
Sigh. If I’m not accepted into the schools that I applied to transfer to, I’m going to be deeply, deeply depressed. At my current school, we’re required to take an ungodly amount of core requirements taught by highly disinterested professors in lecture halls with over 150 students. I’m grateful to have access to affordable education, but I guess I’m just entitled and want more from my undergrad years. I was online the very moment class enrollment started each semester and classes still filled up too quickly for me to enroll in my required politics course… and I’m a political science major.
On the bright side, it’s been pretty easy to make good grades and a few of my professors have really challenged the ideas I used to have about myself and others. Even if my classes could have been more rigorous, I’ve had a lot of opportunity to grow. That’s what counts, right lol?
This is what I may take in the fall:
Writing in the Social Sciences
Race, Gender, and Identity in World Lit
The Western Heritage I
Elementary Statistics
Introductory Biological Anthropology
Introductory Field Experience for Teacher Preparation
19 total credits
I’m not really sure if I want to take a history class. I’m not that interested in history, but it counts as a humanities AND a cultures credit, so I’d be killing two birds with one stone.
I’ll be taking my last math class in the fall. The prof is supposed to be sorta easy, so hopefully I will do well.
With this schedule, I only have to take one art class, and my general education requirements will be completed. Maybe I will be able to transfer a semester early!
I am taking
Differentiable Manifolds
Quantum Mechanics
Advanced Electricity and Magnetism
Electronic Circuits
Dynamical Systems
I’m not sure if I have time to add a liberal arts class.
I am definitely taking Linear Algebra, Physics II, World Geography, Statics & Dynamics, and Surveying for a total of 16 credits.
I might end up taking Moral Issues in Business as well to get a core requirement out of the way. It’s online and ends in October, so that’s nice. But that’ll put me at 19 credits (which will feel like 22 the first half, but 16 the second half). I was planning to get a job as a tutor next fall. If I don’t take this class, I know I will have time for that but I’m not sure if I’d have the time to work, take 19 credits, and still do all of my activities.
I found out today that I don’t have the programming class required for my major. SO excited about that - I was really dreading that class!
