College Confidential -- is it addictive?

CC may be addicting, but not fattening, or chemically harmful.
It is a source of information, humour and support- just look at the thoughtful posts from differing political perspectives in the cafe’.

Yes it’s addicting. At first you come for the college info, then you move to the Parent Cafe just to converse with other intelligent adults. Kind of a neat way to hear other perspectives on things from folks all around the country.

The friend who introduced me to CC calls herself my crack dealer.

College Confidential : Mom = Facebook : me

Sigh. Does anyone else miss analogies?

" Parents, how many hours a week do you spend on this and other websites researching college info? Just wondering."

I don’t have to answer that question ;)

fireflyscout, I loved the analogies! I was sad to see them go.

And yes, this site is totally addictive.

Yes it is. And cheaper than Starbucks.

SO addicting…spend way too much time here. DH thinks I may need therapy, lol.

ABSOLUTELY! My H thinks I should open a college counseling business. LOL!! This is much better.

Yes, its addictive. But it is a nice place to hang out!

Out of the mouths of babes… my D recently referred to CC as “College Confessional”. Little does she know ;)

Is it addictive?
Duh.

My name is artiesdad and I am addicted to CC (even it I don’t post too often). I started when my son was a HS junior. He is now a second year grad student. Like other posters I know I can quit any time I want…

Smiled when I saw a couple of posts referring to learning enough on CC to make a second career out of it! I’ve had two friends recommend I do the same, and I may actually think about it when I’m done with career #1.

I recommended CC to a friend last night and I had to warn her, “Look, this site is like crack. Just so you know.”

It can be addictive but don’t worry. As has been said on this thread, you can stop whenever you want. Just like my friend who said “I can stop smoking whenever I want. In fact, I’ve done it five or six times already”.

So feel free to quit, early and often

I spend less time on CC than I do on facebook. Drop by Sinner’s Alley any old time. We’re on our 11,751st post. Addictive - nah…

Well, at least the election is over. The parent cafe election threads are beyond addicting… I admit, I couldn’t have quit them if I tried.

“What do you do all day?”

Load photos onto facebook. Play scrabble online. Check CC to see if anyone has posted new info on the colleges that DD might be interested in. Check email. Check power school to see if any of kids grades are plummeting. Add three sentences to the PTA newsletter article. Check the BBC, LA times, S.F. Gate, Straits Times, etc. to make sure I am not missing anything important. Check favorite online stores to see if anyone has any Halloween or Christmas decorations on sale. Get distracted looking for the pumpkin soup recipe, oh, and the candied nuts recipe. Check CC. Check email. Check Facebook.

Repeat.
Repeat.
Repeat.

Mine have both been admitted to the colleges of their choice–one is currently a junior & the other will be a transfer sophomore. They have no college issues currently–why am I here?

Karen, you just described my evenings to a T.

Anyone who thinks CC isn’t addicting should wander over and start reading the Meta Thread. Read from start to finish - it will probably take a few sessions. But don’t have a drink while you’re reading, because you’ll end up cleaning your keyboard and screen repeatedly.
