I go to a school in Fairfax County. The new grading scale/weighting policies advocated by FAIRGRADE have been approved by the school board. I had a gpa that was below three freshman year, but I picked it up and got a 3.7 this year. I took an AP class and am taking more AP’s and honors classes next year. But here’s the question. My class rank is being killed by the students who took 4 honors classes freshman year and are having those classes weighted towards their gpa. I only took one honors class freshman year. Their gpa’s are going to be bloated and mine will be weak compared to theirs. I really want to go to a top school, but will I stand a chance against these students at my school who have bloated gpa’s? Our class rank system is going to be ridiculous now.

The Common App has space to compare you with the head of the class, so that may be of some help. Also, it has space for notes from your counselor, and you may want to ask him/her to clarify the situation.
