College Dance Audition Schedule and Results 2019-2020

@ucsb82 they do have a short waitlist, as some current students I talked to said they were waitlisted and then granted acceptance.

@dancemajor23 Wow he’s been dancing for that long, that’s awesome! My DS has only been at it for 3 years, soph year to present. That’s why we were surprised that he got called in to live audition. Everything since then has been icing on the cake as they say. His rejection from Fordham was not a surprise and he had decided that that was not the school for him any how, so not too big a deal for him. I was bummed but not surprised. I have been extremely, and pleasantly, surprised that he has been accepted into all the other programs he applied to, with the wait for USC tomorrow! If he gets accepted tomorrow I will be absolutely floored! My S loved the conservatory feel that he got from the audition there as well. But wasn’t too excited about the housing, as we took the tour and he would be staying there on campus. He loved UCLA’s campus and housing more then USC but it will be hard to get access to all that USC offers its dancers anywhere else!

@ucsb82 If those numbers are even close to being correct than its like a ~45% for male dancers. I just hope our dancers are on the good side of that 45%. I was told that every year they have a wait list because so many dancers apply to so many different schools and chose not to attend for many different, for some its money, others in the end location, etc… In my son’s case he never really expected to have a legit chance, so he set his sights on other schools (UCI, UCLA, Pace) but with D day being several hours away he is now not sure! I wish us all luck tomorrow!!!

I wouldn’t be surprised if she was involved either! And that is actually amazing that each graduate got a piece of art to commemorate their time at Kaufman. What is horrible is that there is talk of my S HS graduation being cancelled this has been a rough couple weeks, as school and dance studio have been closed. Competition season is probably gone as well! Which we were looking forward to being able to see him dance for his senior competition season. Since once he is off to college those opportunities go by the wayside! Didn’t mean to sour the mood!

So, DS heard back from USC today and was waitlisted :cold_sweat: In talking to him he said he isn’t going to worry about coming off the list and is just gonna proceed as if he didn’t get in. He’s grown up quite a bit because of this whole process. @dancemajor23 @ucsb82 I hope your dancers got better news today!

@NevrMynd51 we were waitlisted too. We accepted the spot on the short waitlist and we are hoping to get off!

Just found out my daughter was waitlisted at NYU, officially decided on FSU!!! She is super excited!

@emilyhuntnelson congrats on having a decision. It feels SO GOOD, doesn’t it?!?

@threegirlpileup yes! SO GOOD! Just hoping all will be “back to normal” for them soon!!! <3

@emilyhuntnelson I’ve heard amazing things about FSU! Have your daughter look into their dance team (virtual auditions open now) they have a lot of gorgeous technical dancers and it will be even more time for her to train!

If anyone was waiting on Boston Conservatory, they just came out. ?

Well the results are finally all in, and now the deciding begins. DD in at SUNY Purchase, Pace, Marymount, Boston Conservatory, Point Park and UNCSA. Decided last week to decline UNCSA, so we are down to five. She is still undecided as to whether she wants to pursue commercial, concert (or ultimately probably both). Any words of wisdom? We are from NJ, so the 3 NY options are more attractive to us as parents, but they all have great positives and none are too far away. Any words of wisdom?

@West7202 The only thing I can offer is for your DD to do some soul searching. If pursuing commercial dance then I think what Pace offers is probably top of the line. Their curriculum even calls for vocal and acting classes if I am not mistaken. She can’t go wrong with any of the 5 choices she has, it just comes down to where she wants to spend the next 4 years “adulting” as my daughter calls it.

@west7202 she has some amazing options. I’d agree with @NevrMynd51 that it’s a moment for soul-searching by your dd. For my dd, a lot of the decision-making process was about getting clear about what her goals were and which program was going to help her get there. And while I agree on the one hand that you can’t go wrong with any of those programs, at the same time there are some big differences. Some things we found helpful were: revisiting the program websites to get more details about curriculum and program emphasis/requirements; scouring YouTube and even social media for video examples of performances; talking with trusted dance teachers about the options. Good luck! I’m sure she’ll land somewhere great!

@NevrMynd51 @threegirlpileup thanks for the thoughts and ideas. Going to put the pro/con lists together this weekend and do a deep dive to help us out. We have visited all the schools previously, which helps, but we were counting on those accepted students days for her to get a better feel. This is one of those times that “virtual sessions” really are a poor second choice.

Does anyone have info about waitlist and/or heard of any waitlist calls being made? My DD was waitlisted for commercial dance. Had email conversation back and forth with Wayne but no clear answers. Although she has a few other great opportunities, She is really stuck on Pace! With all going on and decision dates being pushed back not sure what the waitlist situation is going to end of being.

@shepmom4 do you mean the Pace waitlist specifically? The one thing I’ve heard about Pace is that the waitlist is made up of alternates—you’re an alternate for someone specific that they did accept. If that person says no, then you get in.

@shepmom4 I heard the same thing as @threegirlpileup . The one thing to remember is that most programs’ official SIR day is May 1st. Some have even said that they may be pushing the date back to June 1st, which if that’s the case waitlisted students are kind of screwed, IMHO. The thing at Pace that I didn’t find out was if the waitlist was gender or style specific, I would assume gender but just not sure. I know that even though my son was accepted he has decided not to attend, New York in this current climate just not what he wants. Although he loved the program he has decided that staying close to home is what is best for him. I hope your DD gets in off the waitlist! Good luck!

@NevrMynd51 thank you for the info. I was kind of thinking the same thought process both in respects to waitlist decisions being extended and also people deciding to make different choices in light of the world right now, my DD included. What an unexpected Turn of events after a crazy year of applications and auditions! I guess the Only thing we can do is stay healthy and know that everything happens for a reason. Where has your DS decided to go? Best of luck to everyone!

@shepmom4 My son has been both excited and really bummed, one that he doesn’t have to do homework but just got word that his school district is officially calling an end to the school year. So, all the end of the year events, Prom, Senior Ditch Day, Grad Night, heck even Graduation itself are all being canceled. What a crazy year indeed!

He has it down to two UCI and UCLA. And has been actually leaning toward UCLA, color me surprised! Pace had at one point been his top choice, then it became UCI but once he got into UCLA which was kind of a stretch school because of the SAT/ACT thing his list changed. So we’ll see what he decides in the end. Sucks that we are not able to do housing tours and stuff but he’ll just have to rely on the friends he has there if he decides UCLA! Where has you DD decided? What are her top choices, other than the waitlisted Pace?

My daughter got accepted at multiple schools, wait listed at NYU and Fordham. She is currently trying to decide between (a) Boston Conservatory and (b) U of Arts, Philadelphia. We were planning to visit in April, however, COVID-19 cancelled our plans :frowning: . Does anyone have first hand knowledge or recommendations about these two schools? Any pros/cons? Thanks, Dance Dad

My DD got the call today that she has been offered a spot in the commercial dance program off the waitlist! While this was her top choice program all along and shes ecstatic we were supposed to visit over break. She has not been to New York City since she was 13 years old. Anyone who can give us any insight into the university setting, dorms, activity, etc. to help her with her decision would be super helpful! Also if anyone who has committed has heard anything on whether classes will actually start in September. Hope everyone is staying healthy.
