We have decals on both cars. DH and DD attended the same school. DS attends a “rival” school. It must be an east coast thing because most cars around here have the decals. Its kind of fun to see the “patterns” on other cars. We have all-ivy cars, all-Jesuit cars, all Patriot League cars, etc. Some of the nicest cars are plastered with decals from in-state schools.

“No decals. I have son’s school’s license plate holder in mine and DH has daughter’s school. We see very few decals in cars in the Bay Area. I think this is mostly a east coast thing.”

I see a fair amount of decals here in Texas. They even put them on their seadoos and boats at the lake where we have a place. On fourth of July, tons of boats tie together in a a large cove. Lots of cooking, partying, music playing, swimming, etc. and lots of college flags to be seen on these boats. People put up college flags on their houses, their boat houses, tie them up on balcony railings, etc.

I’ve seen this in southern CA during football season especially on Saturdays when USC is playing.

I confess to a certain ambivalence. I am proud of our son’s hard work and achievements. It happens that S attends a “name” school, and people from our area don’t often go that route. So, it feels pretty boastful to trumpet our family’s association with the school. I also cringe to think that I could be one of those parents who “pushed” their kids so they could then sport the “decal.”

I make no claim that my feelings can withstand examination.

Well, I have to admit I haven’t ever seen a Harvard flag tied proudly to a skiboat at our lake, ha ha. They are mostly representing the big state football schools.

When the song “redneck yacht club” came out, I thought maybe the composer had been to our lake on July 4.

cbreeze- the USC flags are very big on Balboa Island ;)

I know, somemom. I’ve seen this when I visit DS who lives on the peninsula.

The flags are common in this area, Jersey shore. You see them, in the summer, on front porches of houses along the beach…generally second homes of wealthy Philadelphia area people. Lots of Villanova flags.

I did the sticker thing plus ordered D a sweatshirt on the day she got accepted.
My Dh wont put the sticker on until she steps foot on campus.
Will also put sticker of Ss prep school once once he gets in!

Guilty as charged. My daughter is an early admission scholar to the college of veterinary medicine at Kansas State University. I have a K-State “Wildcat” decal on my rear window, a college of veterinary medicine license plate holder, and an assortment of K-State hats, t-shirts and sweatshirts. I figure that I’m already in for $160,000 for D’s DVM tuition, so I may as well pay for an assortment of K-State paraphernalia too. Oye . . .

I’ve never seen a college flag!

Never been around a big time sports school, though.

“Big time sports” at our house was the Harvard/Yale game.
To date, the only college or pro football game I’ve ever attended.

Flags are big around here: either Big Ten or one of the two rival division 3 schools that are nearby.

I have a window cling and H has a license plate frame with S’ school name. We have shirts, mugs, bags, cups, coasters, etc, etc, etc from the school. Even our very young D has stuffed animals and a ball with S’ school name on them. We are very proud parents.

The first autumn we lived in Ann Arbor (for H’s two graduate degrees) we were driving away from town one lovely Saturday. I asked H why there was so much traffic heading toward town and why all the cars had blue flags flapping on them, as I had never seen such a thing before. (I was hoping it wasn’t a truly enormous funeral…)

Then we remembered that big stadium thingy we would pass on the way to the mall…

We have a sticker with S’s college name on the car. Still haven’t ever been to a football game though…

D1 has a window cling decal on her rear car window.

Mafool, I felt as you did. DD gave me a decal to her big-name school. I just felt like putting it on the car was like saying, “My kid is really smart.” I just wasn’t comfortable with that. I stuck it up on my bulletin board instead.

purchased a school flag from ebay and put it out twice. Since we don’t have a proper flag post, it does not show well.

Went to DD’s big name school twice and could not bring myself to buy a window sticker - they are just too expensive. So DD brought one home as Christmas gift. It is still on my desk and would like to put it on my next car. That, of course, may be years away.

It is just a college and everyone (almost) goes to one. what is the big deal!!!
