College Decisions

Hey guys, I’m new around here and I was wondering you guys can give me some advice. I’m having trouble with my paretns on choosing what college to go to this fall. There is only two colleges: APSU which i am leaning towards more and Christian Brothers Univ. which my parents are leaning towards.
APSU is a few hours drive away while CBU is more closer to home in case there is an issue.
CBU is more expensive while I have most of my expenses at APSU covered.
Another thing is dorms. My mother is drowning in worry over the possibility of sleeping with a stranger and prefer me to have my own room. However, there aren’t many single rooms at APSU as there are at CBU apparently.
I already got my class registration for APSU and visited their campus. I haven’t done anything for CBU other than send an application.
There is the fact that CBU is private and APSU is a public state university.
I could switch gears and go to CBU but what are your thoughts? (sorry if this was all over the place.)

Both are reasonably respected regional universities. Is one better in your major than the other? Does your mom think your roommate is going to murder you or something?

I feel as though APSU would be a better choice when looking at finances. Why is your mother concerned with the roommate situation, if you don’t mind me asking? I personally had a relatively crazy roommate, but it’s definitely manageable if you learn to lay down the rules.

Maybe because I have always been a quiet, introverted kid. As for the dorm issue. I haven’t been assign a room but all of the freshman halls are primarily double occupancy with some single occupancy. My mother is concerned over who my roommate will be. She probably concerned over theft of personal belongings or something like a drug or alcohol been slipped in my food or drinks. There are other factors she may be concerned with.

nae9001, typically I would say that you’re the one going to school, not your parents. However, they may see something you don’t. Could be their experience, could be cost, could be future expectations, who knows. So why not sit down and talk with them about this in depth? You might understand it better and learn to appreciate their expertise.
