College Enrollment Question

If I want to go out of state and can support myself financially, do I need to have parent/guardian approval? I will be 17 while enrolling though, so I’m not sure how it would work…

Your parents’ income and assets will be considered for FA. If you don’t need FA, you can go.

Don’t kid yourself, it will be difficult if you aren’t legally emancipated. You can sign contracts with the college (student loans, admissions papers, even the health center should be no problem, but to the outside world (banks, signing a lease, getting a driver’s license) you will still be a minor.

My daughter was still 17 when she started college, and the only thing I really had to sign was permission to do drug testing because she was an NCAA athlete. I still did all her FA things because those were really complicated. And I did her taxes because she was still a dependent.

How can you support yourself without any money from your parents?

You said this in another thread: “Cost restraints: I’m not sure, my parents haven’t told me the amount of college savings I have, but I would say the annual income for our house is 50k-70k.”

How are you going to support yourself financially? You can’t get more that $5500 in loans by yourself the first year.

Going OOS may cost your whole family income. Even if all your family income was earned by you, you still can support your OOS college education.
