College Entrance Essay

Hello!

I am currently writing my 2nd of 2 total college entrance essays.

I’m having problems with the 2nd essay though. I do not know how to start the 2nd essay.

The topic is

Write about any previous commendable experiences, any extra-curricular activities you hope to pursue after you have entered the university, and your plans after graduation.

I have plenty of information to fill the essay out quick, but I have no idea how to start it off. The opening paragraph is what is holding me back. Any ideas?

A chunk of my essay is going to revolve around my military experience (5 years in straight out of high school). Should I try to include this in the opening paragraph? If so, how?

If you can think of any great words anyone told you during your time in the military than you can make your first paragraph a short anecdote about that person and how the words of him/her affected you. You could also do more of an opening “scene” sort of thing where you begin with a memory of that commendable experience or something of the sort. I don’t know, just some quick ideas off the top of my mind :)

Yeah going of from what the previous user posted, maybe starting with descriptions of a battlefield if you were in combat or maybe a memorable experience. I would definitely include your military experience in the opening paragraph but that’s just me.
