At Wesley the college essay is optional. However, the admission officer wants to get a feel of how I write so he told me to write an essay about a person who has influence my decision of pursuing my major.

My intended major is Education (K-8) and later on I would like to become a Principal. Teaching has ALWAYS been my heart…but attending Fordham HS For the Arts made me want to continue on and become a principal. If you google Iris Blige you would see why. This “person” is the principal of my school…and she is so unorganized and HORRIBLE!! If you go to youtube and type in Fordham High School for the Arts you would see the rally we had at our school to get her out!

So my question is LOL: Would it be the wrong move to write my essay on how my principal does not do her job as a principal and my goal is to be better than her?

Really…its not that I want to be better than her, its just that I know what students need to succeed and she does not give that motivation. Her inconsistency, “unknowing”, disorganized self lit the fire in my stomach to pursue that goal.

I watched part of the video, and I think it’s a great idea if you can manage to do it without coming across as rude or completely disrespectful.

If you have taken an active, constructive role in this matter: if you are on a committee of some sort, if you are a major organizer of a protest, then you could write about your constructive steps to address the problem.

If not, though, I’m skeptical that badmouthing another person is going to help you achieve your goals.

Your readers are not going to know, or be able to take the time to find out, the accuracy of your portrayal of Iris Blige. They might wonder, though, how you propose to handle interpersonal conflicts in the dorm or classroom, given the example you are providing of denigrating the one with whom you disagree, but taking no practical steps whatsoever to address the problem.

If you have not played some sort of significant participatory or leadership role in this situation, then my advice is to reveal detailed, positive events in your life that make the position of principal of interest to you. Make the essay revealing of you, not Iris Blige.

Thank you for the comments! To ADad…I was on the SLT b4 she kicked me out because I participated in the rally. I was also part of the school committee on which we helped the Union organize the protest…I do understand your comment though. I will have to find a way that shows myself rather than that “CHICK”. (Normally I give respect to adults…but she is a monster)
