Alright,
So I am applying only to the University of Delaware, because my mom works there so I get free tuition. However, I am struggling with my essay. I want to do the one about who has influenced me. I want to write about how several teachers of mine have inspired me to pursue a major in teaching( specifically history education). I just don’t know what to write or how to go about the essay. Please help.

You have a bit of brainstorming to do to craft this. First write Teacher in the center of a paper and try using bubbles around the word teacher with lines leading back to the various teachers identifying situations that influenced you to become one. You will create more connections than you will use in the essay. Try to capture specific acts or moments that cause that teacher lightbulb to go off in your head.

Along the bottom of your paper, list the top 3-5 qualities that elaborate on the qualities of the teacher that are qualities you think a teacher should have. You will use these in your descriptions of how this quality lead you towards this path.

Typically good essays begin with a hook and opening sentence that makes the reader want to read more. So your opening sentence can describe a scene that a teacher who was most influential said or a situation that something motiviated you to be a teacher. I personally like when this is written in the present tense like it is currently happening.

The next paragraphs weave maybe 3 of the qualities/people you feel the most influence by. You only have 500 words so be concise and specific.

The idea of essay is supposed to be the show me dont tell me premise. Paint the scene so the reader gets it, allow the reader to come to the realization of what an amazing teacher you are talking about which is how you feel about them.

In such a short essay, I think you cannot really write about more than 3 teacher situations and that would be pushing it. It will be hard to keep it under 500 words

Good luck!

Thank you very much, and I will take your advice into consideration when writing my essay.
