College Essay Ideas

Hey, I’ve done research recently on what kind of college essay to write and, specifically, what NYU likes to see. As most students, we want our college essay to make us stand out. I have narrowed my ideas down to two:

  1. Essentially it would be about how I was inspired to learn German (third language) after watching Inglorious Bastards and through learning German I discovered what I want to do (International law). I feel this one is way way out there and would thus be unlike most essays, as far as specifics go.
  2. The second would be when I stood up to my entire philosophy class arguing against John Rawls' ideology for government. It was most comparable to a "12 Angry Men" moment of simply saying we can not just except his ideas because they sound ideal at first thought. It was a very big turning point as I was able to argue against 20+ students (some in the class were regarded as some of the most intelligent in my school). While this one seems more in depth, I feel like it is not too different from the millions of other seniors applying in the fall.

Which one sounds more unique to you?
