College essay - is it ok to mention family relationships?

<p>Hey guys,</p>

<p>I’m asking this question for a friend. My friend is applying to architecture schools, and his mother is at a major architecture firm in China and also has relationships with all other architecture firms. At which ever college he attends, he would be able to utilize these relationships to help students explore opportunities in China and find internships. Is it a good idea to write this on his college admission essay? Please let me know what you think. Thanks!</p>

<p>That’s kind of irrelevant in my opinion. He should talk more about himself and his qualities rather than what he can do with all his connections.</p>
