College essay length help pleaseeee

So I realize the limit for the Common App personal essay is 500 words and from what I have read, many people reccomend sticking to this limit. However, after completing mine and cutting it down as much as I could, it still comes to about 1,100 words. My essay is about the donation of bone marrow/a kidney that my mom gave to my uncle to Leukemia and it is a story that I hold near and dear to my heart. I feel as though every sentence is important and adds to the effectiveness of the piece. If I were to send this essay, would admission officers be annoyed or realize why I needed the extra words? Will this put me at risk of rejection? Thanks for the advice and good luck to all of you with your acceptances=)

You should edit it down to be closer to 500.

At 600 words, they would realize you needed extra words. At 1,100 they’ll be annoyed. If you can’t get it down closer to 500, then honestly you probably need to start from scratch with something that can be shorter because 1,100 words is just way off what they’re asking for.
