College essay topic: Change from a catholic school to a public school. Is it a bad idea for a topic?

Is this topic substantial for a college essay? I’m not applying to any ivy league schools, just SUNYs. Is this topic substantial? I feel like it would be a little dry to talk about and I don’t necessarily think the Office of admissions considers the change from a catholic school to a public school an obstacle. Any opinions would help immensely, thanks.

It’s hard for an outside observer to judge the topic not knowing the reason you switched from catholic to public. I would stay away from being too political about it, but stay true to yourself. Since you asked for opinions, I don’t think that would be a topic I’d personally want to write about, but you could use it as a starting point to brainstorm other ideas off of.

It sounds too focused on the circumstances itself and less focused on YOU. They want to know about the person you are and I am not sure a change of school (unless drastic) would really reveal anything meaningful about yourself

It should be about an experience, what happened, what you felt and did then, how it impacted you, and how it affected who you are today.
The topic itself doesn’t matter - what matters is how interesting the essay is. Check out the website “essay hell” to have good ideas

Thanks so much guys, I understand I’ve gotta think of something else  but at least I didnt send this essay!

No, the topic itself isn’t the problem, it could be “what I learned about myself by switching schools”, what matters is how you handle the topic, what you do with it.

Good, it just doesn’t sound like something worth remarking on. They will already see 2 schools. It is usual for this to be a disruption to greater or lesser extent for anyone. Unless you can make it really interesting and illuminating (and I don’t see a lot of potential myself) I’d skip it. I certainly wouldn’t try to frame it as a hardship.
