College essays

<p>Should you connect the essay to college or just talk in general. Like the essay about a person or topic does it have to tie back to college?</p>

<p>College essays should tie back to you as a person beyond academics, beyond standardized tests, beyond all the “numbers” that make up your academic record. Your essays should humanize you and relate to your growth and experience as a person and/or student. Not necessarily a “why I want to go to college” essay.</p>

<p>No, but you should identify where it came from. For example if you are using a quote by a famous person, you should say something like "_____ once said, “insert quote.”</p>

<p>Are you already a top-10%, in-state student? If so, I’d say don’t worry about it. That won’t really consider it when going over your application.</p>
