What are some “essentials” that parents of current or recent college students would recommend soon to be college parents to consider buying as it relates to room decor, study aids, technology, etc?
Reviving this thread. My child is heading to a residential program in a dorm for a few weeks this summer. Obviously won’t need the volume of items that a college freshman does, but I’d love advice on laundry bags, or the other types of really-can’t-live-withouts. Not sure if mods allow it, but even links would be helpful for visuals or recommendations. And hopefully this will be helpful for families with entering freshmen, so really anything you recommend for college students.
It sounds dumb, but for example my college had laundry on each floor so I was fine with a basic basket. Her dorm has laundry only in the first floor. I’ve heard about backpack laundry bags, rolling hampers, and more. Assuming we will reuse this again when she heads to college for real in two years, what would you recommend. The program has give us a huge packing list of ideas.
My d had a collapsible, soft mesh hamper with handles. Easy to transport for move in/out and she was able to squeeze it into the bottom of her closet to take up less room. She nixed anything hard sided or bulky.
Will your kid have a carry on size suitcase with wheels with them? If so, just get any old laundry bag. They can put their laundry bag in the rolling suitcase, wash the clothes, and then fold and put back in the suitcase. Both of our kids did this for summer programs.
Good ideas. What else? In this case, the kids will have zero electronics but I’ve heard freshmen should always bring adapters to have extra outlets?
