We did Parents’ Weekend for both S and D when they were Freshman. After that, we visited them for a weekend in October but not Parents’ Weekend - just when it was convenient for all of us. Both are/were at interesting locales so there was always lots to do.

We went last year when D was a freshman. We “required” D to sit with us during football game, since we had driven 4 hours to spend the weekend with her, and since her younger sib was along. That didn’t go over too well.

This year she asked us to visit second semester, since that are fewer built in breaks to come home. Younger D has a five day weekend in February, so we will visit then, although not for all five days.

It seemed like the right thing to do last year, attend I mean. Not going seems to be the right thing to do this year.

^@FMTTM: You’re right. It’s usually best to: Go With The Flow. (Especially in situations that don’t affect “life-long outcomes”.)

Went to D’s parent weekend last year, her freshman year. She is a 3 hour drive away so the distance/time was not an issue. It was good to experience this once. However, the town is PACKED! Hotel rates go up by about 100%, you can’t get into a restaurant and traffic is bad. This year we’ve all agreed to visit on a different weekend.

Went to freshmen parents weekend, and went yesterday to sophomore year Parents weekend…we are 20 minutes away so costs are minimal…we had dinner with some of her friends parents, after attending the football game…grest way to meet her new friends and their famiies

Taking the 11 hour road trip on Friday (DH and I taking more stuff she can’t live w/o). D2 is a freshman, I’m not promising to attend anymore. I just would hate if everyone’s parents were there and we weren’t. Attended D1’s freshman year (she a junior now). I hated it and she’s only 4 hours away. Not going to D1’s this year waited too late and there are no hotel rooms available. Not paying over $200 to stay in a dump. I told her to come home.

Unless I missed something, my son’s college only had parent’s day for freshmen. Grad school offers nothing

Family weekend is this coming weekend. We are going for a few reasons – mainly because there is a scholarship brunch that both she and we are invited to, and we really do want to meet/thank the donors for the large award. We live about 3 hours away, so can get there/back without too much pain, and we’ve promised to take the kid to the mall to mess around – she can get there on the bus, but that’s a bit of a pain – besides, we enjoy schlepping sales together. Other than the brunch, not sure what of the “official” events we may/may not attend…
