college financial advisory

Hi just got this letter in the mail for free money anybody heard of it before i send a refundable check to them

If you have a link, it’s gone. But, it isn’t really necessary.

DON’T SEND ANY MONEY. Refundable, or not. Almost always a scam.

Never send any money to anyone for “free money” it is the biggest scam running. Your check is not refundable and there will be no money there when you try to cash it.

Repeat after me - if it seems too good to be true - it is not true, it’s a scam.

But if you don’t believe us, Google it and you will find out there are a lot of issues with them.

thanks i thought it was too good to be true but with two going to nursing school every little bit helps

LillN, that’s OK. Better to ask. They count on the eternal optimism of ordinary people. Especially in these tough economic times, the thieves and scammers are out in droves. Not for anything should you send a check for money. It never works.

This company claims to offer services searching for “targeted” financial aid opportunities for college students, but they don’t do anything a student couldn’t do themselves with a couple hours and Internet access (it’s only in the fine print that they note that results aren’t guaranteed) OR any advice that students couldn’t get free by visiting the financial assistance office of their college or university. Worse, they use deceptive advertising - implying a connection to the college or university that whose students they target with their mail solicitations. Many schools are now being forced to notify their students of the scam this company is running: [Connecticut College : SCAM ALERT](http://www.conncoll.edu/admission/2774.htm) [Caution About Scholarship Search Offers](http://www.muhlenberg.edu/finaid/scam.html) among many others.

I, too received a letter from the “College Financial Advisory” last week. My daughter is attending her 2nd semester at a Texas College. Of course, when you are a middle class family and do not qualify for any financial aid, you tend to reach out for any assistance that may help! Well, after I googled “College Financial Adisory” I realized that so many people, like myself, received this same letter and realized that it was a scam! It makes me so angry that we work so hard to make a living, pay our taxes, abide by the law, struggle to make ends meet, and then someone like “College Financial Advisory” solicits a letter asking for a “fee”, so they can help you find financial aid assistance for your child to help pay for their college. You should never have to pay anyone to send you information you can find for free on the internet or at any college’s financial aid office. Someone is making money off all of those who are sending them this so called “fee”! This must stop and whoever has received this letter, do not send them anything and write your State’s Attorney Generals Office and file a complaint. It is hard enough to pay for our child’s college and make ends meet in today’s economy, much less send money off to a bogus company!
