FSU is going to bolt the ACC. Im sure theyâve had it.
Our COO is a longtime friend and his son went to West Point. Our owners decided to purchase a luxury box for the game and invite management to attend. I havenât been this excited for a sporting event in a long time.
Not many options for them to do that, as noted by bluebayou here: College sports realignment - Pac 12 implosion - #389 by bluebayou
That also wouldnât surprise me. And to add insult to injury, the chairman of the CFP selection committee is âBooâ Corrigan, who is the AD at NCSU â another ACC school.
Boo Corrigan is a joke. See my rant from last week.
Doubtful, the new playoff format guarantees a spot for a p5 conference champion. ACC is not a particularly strong conference, so winning a spot would actually be relatively easy. Going to the SEC or Big Ten, they would have to get through Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, or Georgia to win a conference championship. Good luck getting an at-large bid with Texas, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Washington added.
Is âBoogerâ his real name or is that some kind of middle school nickname that stuck?
His given name is Anthony.
I would call Anthony a good strong name over âBooger.â Just sayinâ.
In my opinion had Alabama not beat Georgia for the SEC Championship then the selection committee would have made it easy⊠Washington, Michigan, FSU, and Georgia⊠no particular order⊠all undefeated teams. BUT, because Alabama beat the number 1 team; and Texas beat Alabama at the beginning of the season (head to head seems to be most important factor here), it thru controversy into the mix. The best thing that happened to Texas is Alabama winning the SEC.
Roll Tide and Hook 'em
I agree thatâs probably what wouldve happened.
They couldnt have Alabama without Texas because it wouldve made the entire selection committee look even more ridiculous since itâs the âhead to headâ criteria and by far the most irrefutable. As soon as Bama won, I knew we were in because Texas would be ranked ahead of Bama no matter what.
FSU does not have the same political or football clout as Texas, Bama, or Georgia.
I do not think it was about politics per se. The committee did not want another blow-out like last year (TCU). And they have always said the 4 best teams. The 4 best this year Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, and Ohio State⊠my opinion of course. The Georgia/FSU and Michigan/Alabama games will either confirm the committees decision or rain more fire and brimstone down on them.
Georgia/FSU will not tell us anything because there will be a ton of opt outs.
Patrick Payton has announced heâs going in the portal. Thereâs a rumor, several other FSU players will also portal in search of more NIL.
Totally agree if the good players do not play.
So - would this be the place to mention that two days ago my brother (also a U of M alumni) decided for his bucket list that he should go to the Rose Bowl? Bada bing, two days later he has flights from Chicago to San Diego on Dec. 30, we all have tickets for the game (20% discount through one of his connections), a HHonors points room in San Gabriel on the night of the 1st, and going to the float viewing the morning of the 2nd. Then back down to SAN to catch his 5:15 flight home.
I last went to a Rose Bowl game on 1/1/1970 (Boâs heart attack day). And the parade ten years ago.
My humble opinion, if the CFP can do 12 teams in a playoff next year, they can do 24. Itâs literally ONE extra game. This gives all the conference champions an automatic bid with plenty of room for at-large bids from the top 25 list. I guarantee the #1 ranked team WONâT win the title most the time. The ratings would explode.
Iâm not sure Iâd want to see the 2-loss teams play again, let alone the 3+ loss teams. Iâd tune out.
The top 8 teams in a playoff would be fine by me.
I know I donât want to see Oregon State, Oklahoma State, Iowa, Penn State, etc. play again.
24 would be way too many, IMO. Iâd be happy with eight or 12.
I wish it were 8 teams this year. I think 24 is too much as well.
Yup, anything more cheapens the regular season. IMO 8 is plenty.
