What I found very interesting and surprising about Michigan’s defensive game plan was that Jesse Minter, the Michigan DC, didn’t blitz Penix much at all. Michigan rushed just 4 the vast majority of the night and dropped 7 into coverage, playing Cover 2.

All that pressure and all those hits, for the most part, on Penix was created by just the 4 players.

Yep. He drew up the perfect game plan for this team. Let them get all the short yards they want. Stay out of the end zone. That is what people don’t get with Michigan. Look at Maryland and Penn State and people complain they are running too much. Nope. It’s just what is called for that game.

Brought a nickleback a few times but that blitz never got home. Still, Penix had to consider it. Mind games.

But the front four twists worked well enough. And except for a couple blown coverages, the secondary covered pretty well.

Holding Washington to 13 points and 300 yards was a phenomenal performance.

Well, for the record, Michigan had one sack for 12 yards. In addition, Penix looked pretty darn awful during and after the game. A nursing friend of D18 texted my D18 during the game and said ā€œbroken rib.ā€ So, IMO, Michigan ā€œgot homeā€ plenty.

got home, meaning: sacked him. Wasn’t the sack accomplished by a lineman?

Hit him? Oh, all game.

I had no skin in this game…but thought the coach needed to pull Penix out of the game at the end. UW had no chance to win and while Penix was a warrior, he may have risked a more serious injury.

Anyway congrats to UM!

Yes, Michigan defense has been playing well, the last month especially. UMD game comes to mind for me. They (Michigan) are like a pro team.

I totally agree. Mid 4th Quarter either Michigan was up 27-13 or for sure when Blake Corum scored to make it 34-13, he should have been taken out. He was limping and his left arm was hanging awkwardly.

H, former doc, was wondering if he came in with hurt ribs because he seemed to have a lot of padding around his midriff and more in one side. I also wish he’d been pulled because he was obviously in a lot of pain.

After the sixth straight championship game blowout, is there no parity in the league, or is the selection committee just that bad?

Maybe instead of a selection committee, it should be a national audience vote like on America’s Got Talent…

The other comment that I’ll make is that the pro-Michigan crowd appeared to have helped contribute to several Washington false start penalties.

As for the CFP selections, most pundits outside the State of Florida thought they got the 4 selections correct.

Next year folks will complain about the #13 and #14 teams not making the 12 team playoff. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I wonder how last night’s game affected Penix’s draft stock?

Seeing how injury has been an issue and Michigan’s defense is what he will see every week in the NFL.

Washington’s OL didn’t seem to have an answer to Michigan’s DL.

Didn’t go the way I wanted but I was sure impressed with Michigan’s tackling in space.
Congrats to them.

Penix interview today he said he’s fine but sore. He said he ā€œwouldn’tā€ come out… He said he wanted to finish it with his guys no matter what.

Also, yes his stock will suffer. Pro teams know how to cover him now. Plus he has an injury history. Talented dude but I would pass.

Saban is retiring…

I had a gut feeling after his post-Rose Bowl game news conference that he might retire.

I had some thought of going to Ann Arbor this Saturday…but for shopping! I think while it would be cool to be there, I will stay home and off the AA2 streets!!!
