Since Dad had such a big role in the athletic program at Texas for more than 15 years, I just get very nervous when the team is hyped up so much. I don’t want him to be disappointed or have a heart attack!!
I probably shared that when we were planning his funeral the FIRST time we thought he wasn’t long for this world, I contacted the Dean of the Engineering School and she arranged for members of the Longhorn band to play. It was cool that he survived, because we could tell him what we’d planned. He said, “They would do that for ME??” Uh, yes, Dad!
I don’t know the present Dean, but I’m hoping we can arrange something when the time comes (probably many years from now!). The SECOND time we planned his funeral, we thought he was going to pass literally within a couple of days, so I didn’t have time to contact anyone. Then he bounced back miraculously.
