The Crimson Tide won, but it wasn’t pretty. The D didn’t show up. It was strange to see Lane Kiffin standing next to Saban most of the game…made it look like there were two head coaches on the Tide sideline.

this year will be interesting with the new post-season 4 team playoff.

I wonder if when the final 4 play, and after 3 lose, are they assured that they will still have top 4 rankings at the end?

Wolverines crushed Appalachian State; only partially erasing the disgrace of their loss to them several years ago which is constantly described as “arguably the biggest upset in college football history.”

Glad Bama won but was hoping for a nail-biter finish. Sorry to see Oklahoma State lose to the predators, um…I mean the FSU Seminoles. Hate the new U Washington Huskies uniforms; shades of the U Oregon Ducks. Do we really need a uniform and helmet for every day of the week?

Wonder how the lords of college football, i.e. the conference commissioners, will keep the fans interested in the playoffs after the completion of the bowl games? I haven’t watched the national championship in three years. I hate waiting a week after New Year’s Day to see a champion. I’m just old fashioned. In the old days you could argue about who’s the true national champion for months.

@sax Actually Penn State beat UCF (University of Central Florida) in Ireland. Bit of a heartbreaker since I’m from Orlando but a good game anyway. I don’t know why they played in Ireland, though.

Florida Gators vs Idaho game was called for inclement weather. I can’t remember that happening before and it was a real shame since I’m sure Florida would have beaten Idaho ;)

I don’t mind an occasional change in look for special games since the teams (at least the best-funded ones) do get new uniforms each week anyway. But, I do not like those Power Ranger-looking costumes.

And I hate those weird helmets that UMaryland wears…or at least work in past seasons…haven’t looked this year. No one knows what a Terrapin is anyway…why complicate matters by wearing a Harlequin helmet?

As YDS reported, the Longhorns did well. I am related by marriage to the quarterback, David Ash. He’s a great kid. He led a very sheltered childhood (didn’t even have a TV!), but he seems to be handling things well.

I didn’t know that, ML! Or if I did I forgot. I was yelling at the TV every time he went out in the fourth quarter. He’s already prone to injury, and we were up by four touchdowns. I was so afraid that he’d get hurt for no reason. This was the perfect time to get a backup some playing time. Did we learn anything from the Colt-Gilbert fiasco? BTW, Gilbert was cut this weekend. :(

Joblue, PSU and CFU played in Ireland because former coach Bill O’Brian made the arrangements when Penn State could not go to bowl games. He called up CFU and suggested it as fun for both teams and a reward for the kids who stayed with the team. Good game.

^^
I like all white uniforms…they don’t look funny to me.

I don’t like those uniforms that look like kiddie Halloween costumes. They remind me of my 3 year old nephew who insisted on wearing his Green Lantern outfit every single day.

Never meant anything bad or funny about white uniforms, just that I couldn’t see anything to object to, since sports teams have a white uniform as well as one with more color.

Well then you’re just going to love this season, since I believe the Championship game is scheduled for Jan 12th!!

I listened to the “talking heads” on ESPN’s College Gameday programming, and most of them approve of the playoff idea but would prefer 8 teams instead of 4. Lou Holtz once again highlighted his ignorance by claiming that the playoff system makes only 2 bowl games relevant each year (Rose and Sugar this year) so he doesn’t like it. Ummmm…Lou…by that reasoning under the BCS only one bowl game was relevant…whichever one hosted the Nat’l Championship game. What a moron.

My Wolverines looked decent against Appalachian State, but we’ll see how they look in South Bend next week. Bring on the Catholics!!

White pants and helmet are not traditional for the UW which tends to tick off uniform purists. They normally wore gold or purple pants and had a gold helmet always. They did fall victim to the trend of trying to make the mascot look more fierce as well.

I am not crazy about the all white myself . . . not normally our style

Sarkasian should have taken his smaltzy Husky uniforms with him on his way out of town to USC. Bring back the purple and gold!!! This isn’t the Pop Warner league!
