College Goals and Possibilities

Note: This is very similar to a previous post

I’m only a sophmore, but I would like to get some ideas about what my goals should be andwhat schools might be suitable for me. Though it’s a bit early, I’d still like to have somewhat of an idea of what I could be aiming for.

I will be interested in either majoring in social sciences, marketing, or something art related. I’m also interested in fashion, but most likeley as more of a hobby than a career.

I’m looking for schools in CA or in North East/MidAtlantic
I’d prefer a college to be in or within driving distance to a city, or in a small, quaint town. I don’t think I’d do well in a rural area.
I dont care about size right now
Financial Aid is always good but isnt THAT important as of now

So I really don’t know what I should be looking towards in terms of academic and extracuricular goals and such. I only know that I do want to go for some more selective schools but I dont know how selective is reasonable. Any suggestions?

Oh yeah, and I was looking into Cornell b/c they have a Apparel/Textiles Department, and are the only Ivy to have one. I wish it wasn’t in freaking Ithaca though. IDK if I can handle a rural area like that.

bump…anything?

i know you don’t want to hear this, but relax you’re only a soph.
i was worried about college the way you are now (although you’re already seeming much more organized and focused on finding a good fit than I was) and it just made me unneccesarily miserable, constantly feeling inferior.
of course, this could be because I actually am inferior, or instead because the whole college process has become a lot of unhealthy comparing oneself constantly with others to see where you stand instead of who you are.
relax, you’re doing great.
enjoy high school- i’m a sr now and i wish i had taken more time to really appreciate the high school experience and opportunities rather than trying to do to much, be the best, and worry about if I was good enough, if College X (harvard in my case) would take me proving I really was the best of the best and all my current issues and inferiority compared to my friends would simply vanish as my untapped potential was recognized. o so egoistic a thought process, but at least i admit it.
good luck.
