College Grades Concerns

Hi. I attended the Stanford 2012 High School Summer College this year, learning two college courses, Engineering and Political science. I got an A+ on Engineering and a C on political science. :frowning: I got that C mainly because I didn’t correctly interpret the direction of a short essay question on my final exam… I wonder how it could affect my application and do I really have to send my summer transcript? I really hate that C.

Oh, and I am a international student with English not as the first language? Will the admissions officers take this into account. I think other parts of my application are very competitive.

Or…what if I wrote a explanation about the grades and added it up to the additional information section? Will that help?

Thanks for all the responses! :)

I don’t imagine you need to send any of that information. Columbia will not take any grades you have earned from a college or pre-college program while you are in high school unless you are a transfer student (excepting AP/IB/etc programs if you count those as pre-college). You can, of course, mention that you attended the Stanford program, but the only transcript you need to send is from your high school.

Yes, officers do take into account that you are an international student and a nonnative speaker.
