I’m in community college and I had a GPA of about 3.9+, but I ended up dropping a 5 unit class (got a W) and got a B in a silly GE class for history which should NOT have happened. This dropped my gpa to 3.875 and a W on my transcript…I am a biochem major.

During that semester, I was faced with overcoming/accepting the fact that I am gay and can not do anything about it. I am happier than I have ever been now that I have been able to stop fighting it (even though I am not interested in having relationships, it was still bothering me) , but I am NOT happy with the fact that my education took a hit. It was a mental roller coaster of self-discovery…

Now, I am applying for universities and I will probably have to explain what happened that semester…but I can’t because no one knows I am gay and I can NOT just put something like that in an application since everything I write becomes the property of the university. It is just NOT an option…

Should I just lie about the reason that semester was not good? Or should I just not explain anything and leave no reasons…

I’m applying for some top schools like UCLA and UCB…

I don’t quite understand. Are you afraid that the universities to which you apply might release your essay somewhere? Because first, I very highly doubt that that would ever happen, and second, even if it were to happen, your name wouldn’t be attached to it.

I’m actually pondering the same thing; in a class in which I could have very easily gotten an A, I got a B because I was dealing with depression. But then it looks weird because my grades in the rest of my classes were fine. But I don’t think that you have anything to worry about with regard to writing about your homosexuality in your application essays. I don’t think that you should lie.
