<p>Let’s say… I get $20,000 grant from a college.</p>
<p>Should I apply for any scholarships? Because if I win $2,000 scholarship from some organization, don’t they only give me $18,000 ($20,000-2,000) grant?</p>

<p>It varies from college to college. Some would deduct the outside scholarship from the aid package starting with grants; some would deduct it only from loan portion of aid; others won’t deduct at all unless combination of aid and scholarship totals an amount that is in excess of the college’s estimated annual cost (total of tuition, fees, room and board, books, and some living expense).</p>
