College Honor Scholarship

If I apply for College Honor Scholarship (full tuition merit scholarship) would I be in tougher position for the actual “admission?” Would I not get accepted if they think I’m good enough for admission to UChicago but not good enough for full tuition scholarship?

I highly dubt checking that box makes it easier or harder to get in. They probably put your name on the “review for scholarship” list or whatever if you are admitted.

Right; merit scholarships have no impact on your admission at all.

how competitive are these scholarships?

Almost everyone should check the box on the application. It won’t impact your chances at all.

From the admissions site…

No impact on admission – I’m pretty sure almost everybody checks the box. Can’t hurt.

But I have the impression that these only go to prot0geniuses and URMs.

can someone post an example of an applicant’s profile who is awarded this/

Here is a profile of someone who was awarded the scholarship because of academics rather than URM, athlete, etc. It looks pretty grim.

How come it says “College Honor Scholarship” twice? Listing 20 and 30?

I was wondering that, too. The wording is unclear, but I took it to mean that 30 full scholarships are given out, and 20 of those students attend. I’m not sure though.

Yeah, that would make sense. But my goodness what are 10 people doing turning down that $140,000?!

They’re low income so the ivy leagues gave them an even better package in need-based financial aid.

HOLY ****

i cant believe that guys profile

he took the GRE?

wooooooooooooow

Not only did he take it, he did better than the average U of C grad student. My favorite was under hooks when he said, “I dunno, RSI???”

Yeah that is just a jaw-dropper. Apparently a $35,000 jaw dropper at that. I hope there aren’t any of THEM this year lol!

Yeah, I kind of feel like shooting myself right now.

Holy crap.
You just made me lose all confidence in ever getting into another college again in my life…

Wait wait guys. I’m probably as depressed as you right now (NO fin aid? honestly i was ****ed), but let’s think. We only have one profile of ONE person who got it. This person could have been the best applicant in 10 years! This person could have been head and shoulders above the other 29 people who were offered full tuition! We shouldn’t just assume that this is the “average” person who gets the full tuition scholarship, or that we need to have a profile like that to get it (if for sanity’s sake alone).

Well I dug this guy up, so maybe some of you can find someone else that will make us feel better. ;)

A good friend of my S’s was awarded one of those. Went to a public school, 35 ACT, 1550 SAT, excellent GPA in a relatively tough curriculum, very good writer, (but the deal sealer I believe) a really focused scholar interested in archeology who had spent summers taking classes and working at museums. Developed a new way of evaluating ancient timelines. Captained a national championship academic team, and one of the nicest people anyone could meet.
