Hi guys! I have a 4.0 UW/4.69 | 1450 SAT | decent extracurriculars but nothing crazy (raised over $30k in auction items for fundraising committee at extracurricular I started, NSA funded language program, run Instagram for extracurricular, and have Congressional Award where I pursued 100s of hours of activities in different areas for personal growth).
I want to study business (marketing and maybe international business, though of course it could change).
Oh, and i homeschool but have taken a ton of dual enrollment so it does back up my gpa to a degree.
What colleges in the northeast (all the way from Maine to DC) would you recommend? Also, what are some other good ones for merit?
This was my last response from the other thread. It still holds. It’d help to know your state because there’s likely schools there that will hit. Can you share ?
Adding today if not too far West - WVU. If you’re from NJ - you mentioned Rutgers, TCNJ, and some SUNYs too.
Given your interest in languages and international business, would URI’s International Business Program be of interest? It’s a dual-degree program in business (any specialty of your choice) and foreign language (Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese or Chinese) with a full year of study+internship abroad. URI gives pretty good merit, and if you have a lot of DE credit, the dual-degree might not really take five years. A lot of students in their international programs (they have dual-degree programs for engineering and CS also) get jobs with their internship employers.
Temple U gives some good merit scholarships too, and they have campuses in Tokyo and Rome in addition to their main campus in Philadelphia. They have an International Business BBA with a Marketing concentration as well as other concentration options, and their opportunities abroad are excellent.
If you can provide feedback on what appealed (or didn’t) with the schools that were previously suggested, then that might help posters to hone in better on what it is you are really seeking.
My daughters from NJ had very similar stats and needed merit. Your best bet under 40k are Rutgers, TCNJ, Rowan, njit or any of the NJ public’s. I think they were offered 22k at UCONN, 16k at UMASS, 17k at UDel, the one who applied to SUNY Bing was offered enough to get a little below Rutgers, Saint Joseph’s was the lowest total cost. Privates like quinnapiac and Scranton came in around 40k, UMD and Pitt were over 40k with merit. Clemson offered $10k and I have one there. For higher merit you might need to go south or west. Keep in mind these were awarded in 2019 and 2021, seems merit seems to drop.
