College list. Hopeful for elites

Firstly, thanks for reading. This is an updated list. My last thread had too much flying around in the comments so i decided to sum it all up in a fresh thread.

This may be a tad bit long so bear with me

Rough stats
Approximate GPA: 3.6-3.9 (GCE system, this is self calculated. GCE does not use GPA and converting still wont compare as GCE is more rigorous, i have first hand exp with both high school and GCE)
1980 SAT (750M,680W,550CR)
Hoping to get 2100 in october. Pratice tests show i can.

The reason my CR is low is due to a mistake with grading. 12 omitted in CR, I didnt omit anything. Planned on hand scoring, but decided against since i’ll be giving again anyways

O level boards:
3A* 3A 2B
This translates to a 3.925 as a B in GCE is equal to an A- in the american system

Majoring in CS.

Colleges i will be applying to. I just wanna know if my list is good or not. If i dont have enough matches or safeties etc.
Anything not even worth the try
Also, any additions would be nice. I need quite a bit of aid
I know this is reach heavy, but i believe in reaches and safeties.

In order of preference

 1. Cornell (ED)
 2. Stanford
 3. MIT
 4. Pomona
 5. Harvey Mudd
 6. Brown
 7. John Hopkins
 8. University of Southern California
 9. Georgia Tech
 10. Emory
 11. University of Rochester
 12. UMD - CP (in state)
 13. UMBC (in state)
 14. UMass (amherst?)

Additional stuff.
Basketball team captain
Model un multiple accolades
Assistant committee director at my schools model un
Student council
Muslim student association
Volunteer at multiple islamic learning centres
Possibly member of a well known NGO, should get confirmation this week
Plan to take part in schools drama production in sep/oct

Not related to CS cuz CS is unheard of where i live. So no clubs, events, etc. We tried to get a computing class running but were rejected cuz we didnt have enough students

Most rigorous course load : yes
I take further math which is considered the hardest subject offered in A levels. People look at me like im crazy when i say i take it. We originally had like 15 students. But like 10 flunked out. I got an A on midterm and B on finals

I have a close relationship with my A level math/further math teacher. I end up getting into a casual convo with him all the time.
My O level english teacher will write the second. I was practically her favorite student. Always got the highest marks in the class on essays and tests and stuff
My GC is pretty nice too. I visit her often.

Feedback on my essay has been positive.
About how the foreign environment around me helped me grow as a person.

Thanks and sorry again for the lengthy post:)

It seems you should be using your HS GC as a sounding board for you, especially because the grades translation is unfamiliar to most people posting here.

Of three incoming international people I know from Pomona…

One had 7 A* and 1 A
One had 6 A, 2 A, and 2B
One had 4 A

I am not familiar with this system of grading, so maybe this can give you an idea of who gets accepted?

Well, int’ls have to do alittle better. I forgot to mention that i am a US citizen but i guess u could figure that since i listed UMD as in state.
I only took 8 subjects. Got a B in islamic studies and biology. Also started my O levels a year later than everyone else since i started the GCE after taking freshman yr in american high school.

I also forgot, my predicted for A levels will be 2A* 1A 1B

Yeah, if I were you, I’d talk to your GC. Most (sorry if I’m lumping people together) of the people on here (at least the ones who live in the US) won’t get your grade translations, and therefore will not be adequately be able to judge your skill.

I agree that you should talk to your GC. And I would also wait until you get the results of your next round of SATs – you can’t just assume you will get a 2100 because of practice scores and your current scores make your list extremely reach heavy, particular if you CR score doesn’t come up.

Going forward I still think it is better to bump up an old post than to keep putting up similar posts on one topic.

[General Certificate of Secondary Education - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](General Certificate of Secondary Education - Wikipedia) has some description of the grading system. Basically, the passing grades are A, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, with A being the highest grade.
