College List & Lehigh University

Applying to College

<p>I’m not the type of person who’s full of himself, but as I review my college list, I notice that I don’t necessarily have any safeties. However, of all the schools to which I’ve applied, I somewhat consider Lehigh U. a safety or a safer school. With that said, any comments or insight on my college list would be greatly appreciated!</p>

Vanderbilt</p>

<p>Brief stats:
SAT I: 650 CR/ 750 M/ 710 W
SAT II: 760 Chem/ 710 Math 2
GPA: 4.35 of 4.60 (weighted)
Rank: 22 of 650
ECs: Varsity tennis and a few clubs
Awards: Nothing significant</p>

<p>Please, give me the reality check I need. Thanks</p>

<p>P.S.- I’m an Asian male from Pa. I’m almost certain I’ll get rejected from UVa… why did I even bother?</p>

<p>My unweighted average is about 3.88 to 3.9.</p>

<p>Also, is there any chance for me to get into UVa? One person was admitted from our school last year (and is currently attending), but as you can probably imagine, very few are accepted from my high school. Seriously, my awards are really lacking. I hope they can see past some of my really weak points.</p>

<p>your stats are good enough for UVA but your ECs are weak…part of the reason you were deferred. i wonder how good your essays are. Penn State sounds like a good safety, or other schools in PA like Villanova, UPittsburgh, Gettysburg, and Muhlenburg (is that in PA?).</p>

<p>kcirsch, I was under the same impression–my ECs are probably my greatest weakness, and I’m afraid all my schools will look at that way, which would more or less mean a rejection from all of those schools, if I’m thinking correctly. I mean, what am I supposed to do about it now? :(</p>

<p>don’t just look at who is admitted – look at the number of high stat students who are rejected.</p>

<p>Lehigh is a safe match, but not a safety. You definately do need a real safety.</p>

<p>Mich, CMU, Vanderbilt and JHU are matches. UVA, Cornell, Penn, and Northwestern are reaches.</p>

<p>I figured just as much that Lehigh was not necessarily a safety, and that UVA, Cornell, Penn, and NU would definitely be reaches. I hope to hear from UMich soon (it’s been about 5 weeks–when should I expect a reply?) If I am deferred or rejected from UMich, then I will most likely apply to PSU, but if I don’t hear from UMich before PSU’s deadline, then I will apply there anyway.</p>
