xnap30, did the Windows on Williams app come to you in Word format?

I planned on wearing a nice (but casual) shirt and jeans. It’s not like I look like a rough-kin, but it’s not super formal either. I do not think they expect us to dress up as if it were prom or anything. The website states: "We recommend that you wear nice clothes, as you will be meeting college admissions officers. However, formal attire such as suits and ties is not necessary. "
So I would say a nice pair of non-hole-filled jeans would be fine. As long as you look presentable, and not like a teenaged bum.

I just found out that I can’t go to the Yale Conference because my mom has to have major surgery. Is it too late for someone who got waitlisted to be able to attend? It hurts that I worked so hard but I can’t go (and more importantly that my mom has to have surgery), but if I can’t go, I would love for someone else to be able to have this amazing opportunity! :)

Also, could someone who goes/went to the conference PM some important notes that you learned about the admissions process from the conference? It would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Yea, I’m trying to open the word format. But I think I got it now. I opened it at school in Office 07 and it didn’t work at first but I kept pressing cancel when it said to convert and it eventually loaded.
Then I converted it to a old word doc 1997-2003.
So now it works on my Office 03 at home.

I wish I could have attended the Stanford Conference. It sounds amazing from all of the comments!

Also, does anyone know what’s happening with Quest for Excellence awards?

@grammargirl94 - I will type up my notes and message them to you. I’ll also send a few pictures of the campus/events, if you would like.
Sorry to hear about your mom; I hope her surgery goes well.

Thank you, Azyrk13. I would love to see some pictures from the conference!

My mom’s doctor referred her to the best surgeon in town, so she’ll be just fine. She’s actually looking forward to having a couple months of bedrest–no chores!!! She said it would be the perfect vacation with her family waiting on her hand-and-foot if it wasn’t for the gaping hole in her body, of course! My mother is quite the character.

Yeah but no chores for HER. Be prepared for a busy summer.

I already do most of the chores in my house, voluntarily. My mom promised that any other chores would be delegated to my four siblings. :)

Nice. My dad went to the conference with me and there was a section where Dr. McCullough was talking to the parents alone. He said that in the coming months, you should not ask your child to do anything so he/she can focus on getting into college. Needless to say I have not done any chores since then. My mom was so angry about that.

My parents would NEVER follow that advice. They would just have us look at colleges during what would be school hours and do chores after “school.”

^^ LOL. Now I wish my mom was going to the conference :D.

So…, how’s everyone’s travel plans coming along?

@grammargirl94

Once they hear it from a Rhodes Scholar who couldn’t speak for 12 years and is the personal physician to the Dalai Lama, they WILL follow that advice.

@jacobo2880

I’m off to Oxford, England! Based on my research over the last 2 years, I was invited to spend two months contributing to a cancer research paper at the University of Oxford. Call it a pseudo-Rhodes scholarship (not!), if you will. I basically asked them back in January and sent in my resume, as well, and they said yes! This will be my ‘hook’ for Harvard EA.

I’ll make a stop at University of Chicago to do an interview and meet some friends of mine who helped me with my previous research paper before I go to England from June 30th to August 28th. Everything’s paid for through some awards that I won and the local Rotary club gave me spending money.

Have people been notified of the status of the college visit award nominations?

Nope. The website says late summer.

Did anyone else get an email from wesleyan inviting you to an open house?

I got an email from Wesleyan and Vassar. I really wish they would stop emailing us until after the summer scholarships are out!

Was this the email you guys got from Wesleyan?
