I’m curious as to how people applied to colleges when common application was not created yet. Did people just fill out different forms for different colleges and write different essays for each application? Was it a difficult and stressful process? Do you think the common app would have reduced the amount of work and stress that you had when you applied to college?

I applied to only one school, UT-Austin. I knew I would get a scholarship for being ranked first in my class. I looked at applications for MIT and Rice and decided, “Nah, it’s not worth filling them out.” I loved UT and don’t regret not applying to other schools.
